Romney Super PAC Is Running Dry

Posted by on Thu, Sep 20, 2012 at 3:29 PM

The Washington Post says:

The top super PAC devoted to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign spent three times as much as it raised in August, as the GOP nominee’s campaign faced a cash shortfall.

A new filing from the super PAC, Restore Our Future, shows it spent $21.2 million in August — far more than the $7 million it raised — and had just $6.3 million left at the end of the month.

Something that people don't figure into the super PAC equation is that there are only so many available hours of commercial time to buy, and you can only buy so many ads before you reach saturation point. Eventually, people will start to tune you out. This kind of frantic spending indicates, to me, that Restore Our Future maybe reached that ceiling. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not spending smart, you might as well burn every last dollar.

Is anyone else incredibly excited to see what the September figures will be?

Money = Speech and a dollar silence will speak volumes.

So Rmoney is supposed to be running on the idea that we need an experienced businessman in the White House, and we're finding out that his team doesn't know how and when to spend money effectively. This does not inspire confidence.

Mitt Romney is a bad investment.

Super PAC money isn't just spent on ads though... It is also spent on ridiculously overpriced caterers that happen to have ties to... It is also paid to extremely well remunerated staff that happen to have ties to...

so the Republican candidate is spending more than he is getting? Hmmm. So he can preach but he won't practice.

What a stupid turd.

May they have a sandy, lube-free intromission. I just feel bad for whoever's on the other end of their teeny dick.

They do end up saving a lot of jobs in broadcast media though, at least for a year or two...

At this rate Colbert's Super Pac American's for a Better Tomorrow Tomorrow, will be the only one left with any money the last 2 weeks before the election.

At this point, Romney's ads should just say "apply Romney directly to the forehead" over and over and over....

@6: As my dad and I like to say, better a tax-and-spend Democrat than a borrow-and-spend Republican.

and at this point, the Stranger should just write Vote Obama in bold on every cover of the paper til Nov. That way you'd probably reach more people than the hundred or so reading Slog and its "constant" barrage of anti-Romney, with maybe 90% of sloggers already voting for him. But hey, we have fun picking on Mitt, we're like virtual bullies, woohoo!

@13:

A bully is someone who grabs your hand, then repeatedly smacks you with it, while shouting "Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!"

What we're doing is more akin to watching a third-string defensive tackle repeatedly smacking his head into a practice sled, while mumbling, "keep hitting yourself. Keep hitting yourself."

Funny because Romney's supporters were always bragging about his financial advantage over Obama. Now we're finding out that his campaign is having financial problems.

So sad. Poor Lord Romney and Lady Ann. In the words of Lady Ann: "THIS IS SO HAAARRD!!!"
