Unemployment Rate Edging Upward in Seattle

Posted by on Wed, Sep 19, 2012 at 1:46 PM

It hit 7.7 percent in August, which is a bit of a rise from the July rate of 7.5 percent.

Same story for the state as a whole: Washington's overall unemployment rate is up from 8.5 percent in July to 8.6 percent for August.

Neither of those numbers represent big increases, and they're both better than the unemployment numbers a year ago. In August of 2011 the state had 9.2 percent unemployment, while Seattle had 8.4 percent.

Still, it's not good news. (As a lot of politicians will surely tell us between now and Election Day.)

Surely, George Bush is to blame.

But really, I was just reading a PI post about all the billionaires who live here.

I'll say it now, and they'll probably come after me as usually, but I think anyone who has more than $1B in the bank who isn't investing anything in excess of $1B in small business start ups and future technology doesn't really love the the US of A.

But Google and Disney are mostly IT gigs. What about the availability of employment beyond IT? Not everybody with an education is a C++ wiz or can be one for that matter.
