Romney's 47% comments, which were about how he was trying to attract independents, are now pushing independents away:
The survey, taken Tuesday, finds just over half of independents say the video won't make a difference in their vote. Those who say it will have an effect by 2-1, 29%-15%, say it makes them less likely rather than more likely to support the GOP presidential nominee.
Mr. Romney himself seemed pensive on the early-morning flight Tuesday from California to Utah, sitting alone with a white legal pad and a pen as he picked at a vegetarian breakfast burrito. An aide said that he had eaten dinner alone in his hotel room the night before as the video controversy began to unfold.
That is such a sad, lonely image. You could write a whole book, or write and record a whole album, about the idea of Romney being depressed and picking apart a vegetarian breakfast burrito. I've felt more emotion for him as a human being thanks to this one paragraph from the New York Times than I did in the entire Republican National Convention.
