Saved by the Applause Sign! [Applause.]

Posted by on Tue, Sep 18, 2012 at 7:39 AM

Here's a video that documents the top 20 terrible SNL sketches that were mercifully stopped by the "applause" sign. It's funny, because every one of these sketches is awkward... and they don't know how to end things... and... I mean, OR when to shut up. Because, you know... umm... when it's over... it's over. Right? And umm...

[APPLAUSE!]

Oh! Thank you. Thank you so much.

Can't watch this right now, but won't you tell me if that one sketch with Garrett Morris and Elliott Gould as the crooks who keep killing everybody is in there? That was sub-improv quality work.

Meanwhile, this:

Is a great skit. The cast can't stop laughing.

@2 While that one was funny, the breaking of character stuff was telltale Jimmy Fallon. While the cast's laughter sometimes enhanced the skit, sometimes Fallon's inability to keep a straight face can really be annoying.

The Cowbells sketch was great and would've been even better had he not been standing in the background giggling like an idiot.

Still my all-time favorite "losing it in the middle of the skit" skit from SNL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6o3qTykx…

Two words: GILDA RADNER.

@3,
Agreed. Fallon looks funny if you've only seen him a couple times; see him more than that and he just appears unprofessional.

Needs more cowbell IS truly great. Schweddy balls is great. There are plenty of great ones from the 90's and 80's (Chris Farley's motivational speaker and his Chippendale's audition with Patrick Swayze are outstanding).

There are so many terrible ones, it's not worth the original post of applause skits.

Most of them look terrible, but # 7 has me intrigued.

@3 & 5 - Fallon's appearances in SNL sketches always gave me with the impression I'm watching a man that finds himself very, very adorable.
