Secret Romney Tape Reveals that Mitt Romney Is a Dick

Posted by on Mon, Sep 17, 2012 at 4:12 PM

Paul has already posted on the secret Romney tape, but the part that really galls me is in the clip above. Listen to it. Not just the words, but the tone. Listen to the way he emphasizes the word "entitled." Listen to the utter scorn in his voice for anybody who might vote for his opponent.

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them.

Hear that? According to Romney, anybody who votes for President Obama is a welfare queen. What a dick. (And yes I know our scientific, legally binding Slog Poll concludes that Romney is douche, but this guy is a dick if I've ever seen one.)

I've never much been impressed with Romney—not his policies, his motives, nor his political skills—but I am really beginning to actively dislike him.

UPDATE: I just can't get this tape out of my head. Yeah, I disagree with Romney on policy, and sure, he's a total dick. But what really strikes me about Romney is how incredibly small he is.

What gets to me is that he's saying that none of Obama's supporters pay income tax. Isn't that called "projection", when you accuse someone else of something you're guilty of yourself?

Come on -- can't we all get along? Those of us who truly believe that Romney is a dick, are deeply convicted that he is sincerely a total douche, and are completely totally aware that he is an asshole? There's a room for every opinion on this, don't you think? He IS a dick, a douche, AND an asshole! No need to keep quarreling about it. We need to have unity in this precarious time. Why can't he simply be all three? A firm argument can be made that he is a Ghastly Trinity of Utterlydickishdouchinessassholishness.

"My dad, as you probably, know was the governor of Michigan and was the head of a car company. But he was born in Mexico ... and, uh, had he been born of, uh, Mexican parents, I'd have a better shot at winning this," Romney said. "But he was unfortunately born to Americans living in Mexico. ... I mean I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino."

So sad. Who cares for the rich white men? Who will look out for them?

Much as he might protest otherwise, Romney must be a Yankee fan. No one else has that much of a sense of entitlement.

Just as Romney seems to believe that the Presidency -- rightfully his -- is merely temporarily held by a usurper, so too do Yankee fans believe that the World Series is always theirs (even when some other team is the champion).

What he doesn't mention is that every single one of those 47% who pay no income tax pay a greater portion of their income in tax, in most cases a vastly greater portion, than most of the income-tax payers. There are many kinds of tax. And anyone who receives a paycheck knows that none of those famous "tax cuts" apply to him, as his tax bite goes up and up and up, and then goes up and up and up after he cashes that check, too.

I was also struck by the disdain in his voice about people voting for Obama because they/we "like" him. He doesn't want to be liked and he doesn't really give a shit about what those of us who aren't part of the 1% feel. If we have feelings. Because, y'know, we're not REAL people -- we're all welfare queens. I think. Or something like that.

Further along in the video, he says this, re those lucky ducky moochers who are 47% of his fellow citizens: "And so my job is not to worry about these people. I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." Does the man really not realize that everything he has was handed to him on a silver platter? Sure, he worked hard. So do janitors, teachers, and everyone else. Jesus, this guy really believes that half of the country is composed of moochers, and he's entitled to be president. My nephew is a super conservative Mormon. He sounds EXACTLY like this. Mormons take a great deal of pride in taking care of themselves and their fellow Mormons. Good for them. But the disdain that they hold towards non-Mormons blows my mind. Last time I talked to my nephew about this (both of us staying very very polite, it is only when he writes that he allows himself to get super super ugly), he said that Mormons don't talk about all the good they do because they need to stay "humble." I wanted to push his nose in that mess -- humble???? Dear nephew, the very last thing you are is humble!!!!!!!

Poorly reported layoffs reveal Wall Street-owned US gov't sucks when it comes to American workers:

http://www.inquisitr.com/333741/two-amer…

Two American companies which make military uniforms are laying off hundreds of workers as the federal government decides to use prison inmates to make soldier fatigues. American Apparel currently charges $29.44 per uniform. The cost will increase by 15 percent when Federal Prison Industries (FPI) convicts begin sewing the clothing at a cost of $34.18 each. FPI also functions under the name UNICOR.

At a news conference in Costa Mesa, Calif., Romney did not disavow the comments in the video, but said they were "not elegantly stated." He said his campaign was focused "on the people in the middle."

@25 Absolutely. "Job creators" my butt.

This is soooooo horrible. George W at least was a nice guy. Romney is an arrogant, racist, ENTITLED snob who has the warmth and human empathy of Clint Eastwood's chair. A Romney administration would make Dubya's administration look like Reagan's. That is, Romney's administration would be way worse than Bush's. The tattered social safety net would be shredded, our modest protections against the excesses of the powerful would be eliminated, and the richest 1% would contribute a lot less to society and claim a lot more of its wealth. I don't want to think about how bad four years would be, let alone eight. America would become a Third World country, basically, with a wealth gap the width of the Grand Canyon. And I don't think we could recover our old America once we get to that point.

I don't know if people realize how much of our country's wealth and power has been confiscated by the plutocrats. Romney is the consummate plutocrat, with the purest plutocrat attitude, as shown in this recording. I hope this becomes a huge story, because it would, and it should, cost him the election.

And Goldy, you waited until today to start dislinking Romney? I'm way ahead of you in that one.

@29 Fuck off. You were flinging spittle across the room for Bush's entire term.

I'm more concerned about what Obama is doing with my money than what Romney is doing with his own. Obama has added $5.5 TRILLION to the debt and billions of that has gone to his cronies. The GM bailout was a payoff to the UAW. All the supposed "Green energy" crap was a payoff to donors, 80% of the $20 billion pissed down the drain went to companies run by Obama campaign donors.

@27 Give me a break! Romney is saying that those who are struggling or are discriminated by society don't need any help! Why, they should just move their arms faster and pull themselves from their bootstraps, like he did. Oh, wait. That's right. Romney was born with that "silver spoon" he talks about. But that doesn't mean that he shouldn't get all the breaks and tax cuts and advantages and benefits from government, even though it means that the poor have to pull themselves from their bootstraps with crappy public schools, no health care, no unemployment aid, no social services, skimpy higher education - not a damn thing! If a citizen - other than him - wants something in return for what they contribute to society, then he's entitled. Go rot.

And the most you can do is talk about Obama saying something about guns and religion.

My god. You're such a joke sometimes. You make me long for Supreme Leader of the Universe. I don't know what they're paying you, but you're not earning your paycheck today. Go back and come up with something better. Seriously.

Oh yeah, it's that you keep defending racists and bigots.

Romney said: “Had he been born of Mexican parents, I’d have a better shot of winning this.”
He added: “I say that jokingly, but it would be helpful to be Latino.”

What, exactly, did he mean by "it would be helpful to be Latino"?

Because to me it sounds racist.
Like the non-whites in this country who still manage to vote (despite the Republicans attempts to disenfranchise them) would not vote for Romney because of his skin color.
Instead of, say, his politics and policies.

Go ahead and explain it.

I wish I was surprised that there has been no mention of this in the Utah news - all they're talking about is Rmoney's visit to make money from the working stiffs at $1000 a plate. However, this whole attitude is fairly typical of the Mo's - at least in Utah. I can't tell you how many Mo graduate students I was in school with - all receiving public aid and still popping out kids - who would turn right around and criticize African-American women (welfare queens) and Hispanic women (won't repeat what was said there) for doing the same. And if it was pointed out to them that they were on WIC and had their 5th kid via Medicaid - their response was usually something about look at how much they gave to their church. So Rmoney comes by much of his superior hypocritical attitude somewhat naturally, I guess.
Either way, he's still a fucking prick.

He can sit and spin on that silver spoon. I'm one of the 47% that will vote for Obama. My tax rate is about 28%, which is no doubt a much higher percentage of my total income paid in federal taxes than Mitt pays. Arrogant fucker.

Ya know, I realize that there are lots of rich people who are dicks and think that "minorities" get all the breaks (see Mitten's statement about how lucky he'd be to be a Latino). It still surprises me when one of them gets to the national stage like Romney and then says something so utterly stupid, cruel, horrific shitty goddamned privileged whitey what cracker without a clue or care as to how offensive it is as a total package.

I wish "values voters" and anyone earning below $100,000 would realize that Romney isn't talking about you. He doesn't care about any of you. His handlers like the Koch brothers do not care about you. All of you are fodder. Pure and simple. He'd toss you out with the trash too. The plutocrat plan is to make sure everyone is as stupid as possible. Because SMART PEOPLE DON'T VOTE FOR CONSERVATIVES. His buddy Rick says so.

One time Roslyn Carter said Ronald Reagan made people feel good about their prejudices. What we see here is a republican party that feels very comfortable stating how they really feel about you, and you and yes, you over there. Everything from being unapologetic racists, bigots, and effete khaki wearing rich fucks to the delegates who feel empowered to throw peanuts at a camera woman who happens to be black. This is who the republican party is. And if you are gay, brown or middle class and voting for any republican, you are a fucking moron.

The mantra of the extreme right has been that tax cuts = growth, but Mitt Romney himself proves how little tax rates are connected to employment creation investments. The man hasn't worked in years and has paid no more than 14% in taxes yet we don't see him setting up new businesses with the extra income. On the contrary, his entire career has been devoted to increasing profits for the parasite class, (of which he is a member in good standing) by throwing americans out of work and outsourcing those jobs overseas, or by loading up companies with massive debt, then bankrupting them, again for the profit of his parasite class. He fails his own test on tax breaks.

@31 Cite your sources, moron. And Rush Limbaugh doesn't count. Other than the $5 TRILLION you're talking about, which I'm skeptical of, everything else is false.

Bush took a nation in peacetime and with a surpluss and "pissed" that surpluss away to his fellow plutocrats - because they really needed it - and then he allowed the worst terrorist attack in modern history to happen (through negligence or design, you decide), plunged his nation into two ridiculous wars - flat out lying to us about one of them - and let the financial industry go wild and nearly drive us into another Great Depression, if not for the Obama administration stopping the fall - saving the American auto industry, you child - and putting us on recovery. When's the last month the economy didn't ad jobs? Exactly.

And by the way, he guided the end of the Iraq war - that's less of "your" money being wasted in a stupid war that only benefited his cronies in the defense industry, since all you care about is The Debt, not the welfare of Americans - and Obama also managed to get us involved in another Arab country without committing us to another stupid, endless war. Could your boy Dubya do that? Could Romney? Exactly.

But I'm glad to see that Bush is doing well, giving interviews and speeches on behalf of Romney, who's namechecking him in all his speeches and saying how his administration would be like Bush's. I loved Bush's big convention speech this year.

Oh, no. That's right. None of that happened. You couldn't find Bush anywhere outside of Crawford today, and nobody's asking for him. Because he SUCKED.

Got it?

S-U-C-K-E-D.

He sucked! Nobody wants him. (Well, you and Rush Limbaugh do.). Do you know what Obama's approval rating is? Do you know how women feel about him? Immigrants? Other minotirities? Young people? Poorer, less wealthy people? Do you know what those folks think of how Obama is doing his job? And mind you, this is after four years of Republicans and conservatives throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at him. Why is Obama still ahead?

Hm....

And what is Bush's approval rating? Oh, that's right. It's so small you need a microscope to find it. Because he SUCKED.

And what does Romney want? More tax cuts for the people who DON'T need it and WON'T use it to help the economy.

Well... the American economy. It's possible that Switzerland and the Cayman Islands need the help.

This is Romney's policy plan in two words: Tax cuts. It worked last time! Just ask Bush.

And what's all this money he wants to make sure millionaires keep? Oh, yeah... That's money that could be "our" money, money that could be used to help people living week-to-week, to help them find jobs, train for better jobs, and move up in society. American society. And contribute to it.

But these people are just entitled, you know. (To the American Dream?) And it's not Romney's job to worry about them, because he's not going to be their president. He's going to be the president of the United States of W Bush.

And you're talking about The Deficit. (Oh my god!!) If I can barely pay my bills and I can't find a future, I won't give a single stinking damn about The Debt. You can take your Debt and shove it. Go take over to Rush Limbaugh and George W Bush. Your heroes.

From Americablog

The Daily Dish latches on to another part of the now infamous secret video of Mitt Romney telling rich donors earlier this year that the 47% of Americans who support Barack Obama are all welfare queens who don't have jobs, and don't want jobs.
"My own view is that if we win on November 6th, there will be a great deal of optimism about the future of this country. We'll see capital come back and we'll see — without actually doing anything — we'll actually get a boost in the economy."
Not too full of ourselves, are we?

There's almost a religious self-importance to Romney's comments.  Capital will come back (does he mean business will start to invest more?) simply because the Great Romney has spoken.

This is why Mitt Romney doesn't have any specifics to his policies.  He doesn't think he needs specifics.  He quite seriously believes that he has some magical powerful to simply bring unemployment down to 4% again.

He doesn't need a plan. He's the messiah.

@31:

You're so full of bullshit, you probably go "moo!" whenever you open your mouth.

The CBO long ago debunked that canard: taking into account the economic downturn, the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan that were deliberately kept off-the-books by the Bush administration, add in the negative effects of the Bush tax cuts, along with interest payments being made now on debt carried over from 8 years of Bush era profligacy, and you can account for roughly 3/4ths of the "Obama deficit". In fact, the only thing you CAN pin on Obama is roughly $983 billion in serviceable debt, most of which can be attributed to ARRA.

I realize you must think the rest of us are idiots, but if the best you can do is pull your talking points from purveyors of slime and mendacity like Crossroads and Politifact, you'll forgive me if I don't accept your prevarications with the sort of unconditional credulity you seem to believe they deserve.

I have never seen the candidate of a major party looking more shook than Romney does at this press conference. I know that right-wingers claim this the fight they want. Supreme Ruler Of The Universe 48

I don't think the comment about the 47% is the problem.

The problem is the failure of Romney or anyone at his level to acknowledge it!

The whole premise of our current mediated capitalism and "Free Market" globalism, is that the money will flow to the best ideas and people and then consequently they will make the best decisions where to reinvest it and create new products, businesses, opportunities and jobs.

Well, step one doesn't seem to be true at all. What we've really done is taken our savings money and put it into government run lotteries (401k plans and mutual funds) which are then pilfered by a lot of Ponzi schemers.

Step two is that the "winners" such as Romney will reinvest. Again, if this is the case, why is Romney calling me 6 times on a weekend to ask me to donate $100 dollars when he's got $200 million and probably much, much more sitting in banks.

If you really believe in the current economic design, none of this should be happening! It should be as easy for an "unemployed" person to go to a bank and get a $100,000 investment as it is to get a payday loan.

Sigh. Eight out of the top 10 states with the highest number of nonpayers usually vote Republican.

And, of course just because someone does not pay federal income tax, it does not mean that they are exempt from paying taxes such as Social Security, sales tax, assorted state and local taxes. I'd guess that most people see themselves as tax payers, even if they are exempt from paying federal. Perhaps that is why those 8 states with the highest numbers of nonpayers that usually go Republican will not take offense. They won't think Romney was referring to them.

Just my $0.02.

Astonishing, cynical, and mean admissions from this candidate for the American Presidency. 47% of the population...He has nothing for them, nothing in his campaign, no ideas or aspirations to hold out to them, because they "take no care" with their lives. I can't even...How can he presume to lead a country when he has such callous disregard and contempt for half it's people? He himself should be terrified of winning! How on earth could he lead? The cognitive dissonance. My god. It burns!

First off, most of this supposed 47% do pay federal withholding, but with EITC they get full refunds. Or they're over 65. And I'd wager most of those EITC families and retirees are fucking heartland republicans.

And what kills me is that those fuckers will AGREE with Romney. Because, hey, they pay. They just get that shit refunded. Romney must be talking about some other moochers-- like those welfare Mexicans!

I know most of you think "well surely THIS will cinch the election for Obama."

No. Middle Fly-over America is so stupid and deluded they will eat this Straight Shooting shit up. Even though they're the ones most hit by unemployment and Mitt is basically calling them all lazy tax cheats and he's gonna cut their unemployment insurance, medicaid, and disability.

It won't matter. This is the new dog whistle. What the Midwest hears is Romney calling out those shiftless negros and Mexicans. And they love it. And when GOP retakes congress and guts the safety net and all these Midwest and southern mouth breathers become impoverished and get hung out to dry, they'll go to their graves blaming the black guy.

This is great news for Obama! If he has 47% of the population voting for him, that means he has ~150 million votes minimum come November. Compared to the 2008 voter turnout, Obama stands to win 115% of the popular vote. Mitt has his work cut out for him

Now I wonder how many people will hear this and realise just what a self absorbed prick this guy is, what a disaster he'll be for the country, and STILL NOT VOTE?

Goldy,

You're just NOW beginning to actively dislike him? What took you so long. I doubt those voting for him like him. For them it's anyone but Obama.

Love that last line. Because when it comes to "whether you like the guy or not", Romney can't win. Even his base doesn't like him.

@20, it's super ironic that your cousin is so against entitlements, because statistically, Mormons actually qualify for, and have no problem using, entitlements like food stamps ect because of large families. They're so conservative that the woman's place is in the home. Well, when you've got several kids, like many conservative Mormons due because of a lack of belief in birth control, unless dad is an engineer, lawyer, doctor, or nurse, they probably qualify. And I'm not even considering all of the Mormons practicing polygamy whose extra wives apply for benefits as single parents. It's pretty fucking hypocritical.

@20,60,
I'll add my anecdote...

I worked with a mormon guy a few years back. He was a graduate student, probably in his early 20's?, with a stay-at-home wife, 2 toddlers, another baby on the way, and not making anywhere near enough to live.

He received public assistance, as he should, because he was dirt poor in poverty. YET, he still tithed 10% to the mormon church, and he supported the republicans and Mitt Romney, and was AGAINST public assistance. Yes, against it, even though he was collecting it... I tried to fathom his cognitive dissonance on that but he never gave me a straight answer.

The thing is, he's a good guy, a nice guy, friendly, helpful, humble. Genuinely nice. His wife was the same. Nice people, nice family, just brainwashed by the mormons to obey the church's commands, no matter what.

I asked him about gay marriage. He said he was against it. I pushed him on it and he said the reason he was against it was because the church commanded that he be against it. I asked him, "if the church commanded you to be racist, would you be?" He said it would be difficult, and he would pray that it wouldn't happen, but he'd obey the church. But he emphatically answered that he'd pray, a lot, really hard! that they'd change their minds.

It was interesting talking with him. He obviously loved his church. It made him feel happy. So I tried not to pop his bubble, even though it infuriated me, because he was just too nice. Such a shame.

Why on Earth would we elect this individual to be President when he is so hateful towards (what he perceives are ) so many of us? What a revealing tape this is....

It's as if that skit on SNL this week were actually true: http://www.hulu.com/#!watch/401527#i1,p0…

Goldy, I hear what you mean. Hearing his venomous bite on "entitled" is chilling.

Too bad he doesn't drink, because the entire speech sounds like something that could have slipped out after a couple drinks, from lowered inhibitions. But he doesn't even have that excuse. He's simply vile.

@31- Borrow and spend "conservatives" like Reagan, the Bushes, and Romney have increased the national debt than any Democrat in living memory. If the GOP would stop obstructing the grown-ups trying to run this country, we'd be in a lot better shape. Just giving the rich tax breaks has a long track record of doing nothing, and yet that's Romney's whole plan. (Oh, and cutting off the parts of Obamacare that pay for Obamacare... Seriously, he NOW says he'll keep a bunch of the benefits and pay for them with... Oh right, that's a detail he won't divulge.)
