GOP Geography

Media Matters:

Liz Cheney Claims Obama Has "Abandoned" Czechoslovakia (Which Hasn't Existed Since The Early '90s) Cheney Also Pushes The Falsehood That Obama "Has Been Apologizing For America"
Worse (indeed more dangerous) than that: She also doesn't know that the Soviet Union no longer exists. Russia is not an enemy. It's a capitalist nation. A nation with billionaires who own football teams that advertise on their gear and stadiums major capitalist institutions like AIG. The GOP will soon have to admit that they have nothing really to say save this: We want the rich to be richer. That's it. That's our program. What's your problem? We don't give a flying fuck if Czechoslovakia exists or not, is our friend or not, is in Europe or not, believes in God or not. Just vote to make the rich richer and shut the fuck up..

Liz Cheney? That name is familiar. Isn't she related to that asshat that cost us thousands of lives and trillions of dollars invading Iraq? I hear that had made Iran more powerful and that Iraqis were now engaged in torturing and murdering gay people. Nice family, those Cheney's.

That boils things down. In a nutshell. Move along now. No sitting on the sidewalk.

Did she say "Soviet Union"?
I heard "Russia" listed as an enemy.

I'm guessing that is part of their "family values" drive.
They just want the world to be like it was back in the 1950's.
Even to the point of declaring certain nations as "enemies".

Russia and China are competitors.
Trying to turn them into enemies is beyond idiotic.

oh, you know what she meant. she meant the czech republic and slovakia. it's obvious, because obama totally abandoned them. utterly, completely abandoned. 2 nations have never been so abandoned by any president ever.

Yeah, and Obama has done nothing about the Berlin Wall either!

Max, Can you tell us what Obama has abandoned the Czech Republic and Slovakia to? Are the soviets invading again?

And yes, we do know what she meant but if you're going to get on national TV to make policy pronouncements condemning the presidents foreign policy and want to be taken seriously you should at least know the fucking name of the country you're talking about. Using the name they had 20 years ago just further proves that you haven't been paying attention for the last 20 years.

@3 is correct. If someone went to Colin Powell and asked about this neocon strategy, he would say that the US has a lot to gain working with China and Russia, and there is nothing to be gained call them enemies. It will certainly lead to a lower standard of living in all three countries, who stands to gain with the Republicans doing this?

@6: apparently she's referring to the missile defense shield: http://csis.org/blog/obama-throwing-east…

neocon likudnik bullshit.

@3 "Russia and China are competitors.

Where do you draw the line between enemy and competitor?

@ 1

Liz Cheney is still costing us: she's still getting secret service protection! Obama is being way too nice to the former second family who only belittles him every chance they get.

"Where do you draw the line between enemy and competitor?"

Thanks, but I already know you're an idiot.
Try looking up "Cold War".

@11 During the Cold War China and Russia were our competitors in the game of empire. Today, not a lot has changed.

@8, The missile defense shield isn't even designed to protect Czech Republic or Slovakia. It's designed to protect the rest of Europe. If you shot a missile at Slovakia from Iran (supposedly who we're shielding from) this defense system wouldn't block it. If, as your article suggests, we made an agreement with Russia that we would find an alternative location for that part of the shield in return for their support against Iran (again, the country we're supposedly trying to shield from) then that's a great trade.

Wouldn't it be better to get backing from Iran's biggest supporter to stop them from making nukes and ICBM's than to let them get the bomb and try to block it with a defense system that's never been proven to work?

@9, the distinction is the barrel of a gun. Competitors want to sell more shit than you and take away your customers but (in international diplomacy at least) want you around as a potential customer. Enemies want to kill you. It's a subtle distinction but I'm sure if you think about it you'll figure it out.

@13: it appears you think that i agree with liz cheney when i do not. i think she should STFU and never be asked to appear on television again.

@12
"Today, not a lot has changed."

That "not a lot" sort of centers around where our weapons are pointed.
Which is kind of a lot.
And distinguishes a "competitor" from and "enemy".
Unless you're an idiot.
Which you are.

@15 The 1990s was a bad time for the Russians and their Evil Empire. They still haven't recovered. We don't keep ICBMs pointed at Moscow these days because the Russians don't pose as big a threat to us as they once did. However, I don't think the totalitarian character of the Russian state has changed.

@16
Yes, I know that you're an idiot.
You really don't have to keep reminding me.
Really, you don't.

"We don't keep ICBMs pointed at Moscow these days because the Russians don't pose as big a threat to us as they once did."

They have nukes.
They have nukes mounted on ICBM's.
They can destroy our major cities.
But since we are COMPETITORS instead of ENEMIES we don't point them at each other.

"However, I don't think the totalitarian character of the Russian state has changed."

I told you, you don't have to convince me that you're an idiot.
People who aren't idiots know that private business has been growing in Russia (which is NOT the Soviet Union).

@17 Russia is not the Soviet Union, but the Soviet Union was Russia. If you doubt me compare the borders of Tsarist Russia (overthrown in 1917) to the boundaries of the USSR (established in1922).

@18
"Russia is not the Soviet Union, ...

Yay! I've managed to get one fact through your idiot head!
I am the world's best teacher EVER!

"... but the Soviet Union was Russia."

No.
The Soviet Union had 15 "republics" within it.
Not just Russia.

"If you doubt me compare the borders of Tsarist Russia (overthrown in 1917) to the boundaries of the USSR (established in1922)."

So you want me to compare X to Y when the discussion is really about Z and how idiots keep confusing Y (Soviet Union) with Z (Russia today).

And those idiots would include you because you have, once again, claimed that Y = Z.

I don't know why you guys are debating Russia versus the Soviet Union, when the important fact is that Iran is not the Soviet Union.
