New Gay Marriage Ad: When Mom Dies...

Posted by on Wed, Sep 12, 2012 at 11:02 AM

The latest smart commercial from the campaign to approve Referendum 74:

Sitting in their living room, Robin and Steve Boehler of Mercer Island talk about their three daughters, one of whom is a lesbian. Like a recent ad featuring a pastor and his wife, the Boehlers riff on a theme about how families—families headed by straight couples—go through an evolution to embrace marriage equality. Here's the cincher from mom: "When I lay my head down for the very last time, I need to know that there is someone that loves them, and is taking care of them, and is thinking about them—and that's what happens in a marriage."

The ad is the first of part of a $5 million ad-buy that runs through November, says campaign manager Zach Silk. "It will be running long enough to make sure that voters remember it and then we will cycle in new ads." I asked for more details about the next ad, but if he told me, Silk said, he'd have to kill me.

Really effective ad. It would seem hard to disagree with that message.

I've often wondered if a larger part of the opposition toward gay marriage isn't based on religious/moral objection, but on businesses not wanting to pay for medical coverage for same-sex couples. This could be viewed as a handy loophole that sames them money while sanctioning their beliefs. So many things boil down to money, right?

Marriage is how we recognize a lifelong commitment.

Except in the majority of marriages that end in divorce.

Butt, 46 out of 100 ain't bad........

Please, please, please somebody run an ad like this in Minnesota! Latest polls show a majority of Minnesotans will be voting to ban gay marriage in November.

I really like how after saying that one of their three daughters is a lesbian, they cut to a picture of the whole family, with no clue which one is Sarah. Which one of these three daughters isn't allowed to get married?

They look just like anyone else! Maybe one of your kids is gay!

@6 I thought the same! But then came the black and white shot and I just went: Oh, that one. Yeah.

That's a lot of pressure to put on a kid.

What if one of the girls just doesn't want to get married?

'Honey- your momma is DYING!- how can you break her heart?...'

oy....

Is EVERY female
on the pro-homosexual 'marriage' side
a controlling manipulative bitch
who exploits her children for The Cause'?

There's a giant gay storm gathering, and before long the winds will be blowing each other.

@ Hannah's Sister- my sister does want to get married and is actually ENGAGED to the woman of her dreams and we are doing everything we can to make sure that her wedding is recognized by Washington State next summer. My mom isn't exploiting anyone- she's fighting for equal rights. Join the fight.

Wow.

Why does she need the validation of 7 million strangers?

Is The Woman of Her Dreams not enough?

Why does she insist that 7 million strangers put their seal of approval on her relationship?

That seems creepily controlling and obsessive.

Her mom's daughter, right?

True happiness comes from within and not from extorting the approval of strangers.

Has she ever considered counseling?

It isn't as flashy or trendy as a Big Ol' Gaudy Gay Wedding but it might do more good......
