Legalize Pot... for the Children

Posted by on Tue, Sep 11, 2012 at 3:29 PM

This has already been everywhere... but it's too good to leave off Slog.

The Children’s Alliance, a Seattle-based lobbying and advocacy organization for kids, announced yesterday that it's endorsing Initiative 502, the fall ballot to legalize marijuana.

Why? Pot laws are bad for kids.

“Current policies have caused children to be separated from their parents, and families to be trapped in poverty when adults are denied access to educational and economic opportunities,” said Children’s Alliance executive director Paola Maranan in a statement. “Kids shouldn’t bear the burden of system failures. Public policy should move us closer toward justice and equity. Initiative 502 is necessary to eliminate one source of the impact of racial disparities that are currently harming Washington’s children, particularly children of color."

Holy shit, this is goddamn great news for the fucking kiddies.

I would love to see the impact statement for I 502 addressing the changes that will come to children, particularly children of color, when I 502 is implemented. Is it possible for someone to articulate just what is going to happen, to how many people and with what outcome relevant to the impacted children? Could you get back to us with the information, Paola?
