Nancy McLaughlin Is an Effortless Campaigner

Posted by on Fri, Sep 7, 2012 at 4:33 PM

Looks like somebody didnt put too much thought into their state senate campaign.
  • Looks like somebody didn't put too much thought into their state senate campaign.

If you're a 3rd Legislative District (Spokane) voter who values independence and original thinking in your elected officials you need look no further than Republican Nancy McLaughlin for an example of everything you hate about politics. Indeed, McLaughlin is running such a cookie cutter campaign for state senate that she's repeatedly lifted campaign material wholesale from other Republican web sites and emails.

For example, until a local progressive PAC called her out on her plagiarism, the issues page on McLaughlin's campaign website was lifted word for word (typo for typo) straight from the issues page of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee website. (McLaughlin's issues page now says that it is "under construction.") Such an original thinker! Likewise an August 17 campaign email includes several sentences copied verbatim from a May 12 press release from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, while a June fundraising message cribs from another candidate's 2010 campaign for Spokane County Council.

This is the kind of lazy politics that makes Reagan Dunn look like a hard worker.

No doubt McLaughlin would probably blame her campaign consultant, but if she's putting so little thought and effort into her own campaign, it's no wonder that many political observers expect Democratic Representative Andy Billig to win their senate race, um, effortlessly.

I'm not a fan of McLaughlin, and I hope she loses, but the boilerplate that appears on a candidate's website is approximately zero-point-zero percent of a candidate's work. It means diddly, and appears to have gotten the appropriate amount of attention.

In fact, very little of a candidate's appeal or lack thereof has anything to do with "the issues" or "positions", except insofar as how those positions are indicative of whom she's going to be working with -- which the D or R after her name tells you at least 90% of.

@1's link is a lot more damaging, IMHO, because those kinds of relationships ARE what a candidate is working with. If you're claiming endorsements, you'd damn well better have 'em.

She'll have a hard time blaming her campaign consultant for the abundance of cat pictures on her campaign facebook page. Or this gem of a quote:
"Can't help myself...am addicted to people and cats! Met many great people and cats while door belling tonight, but will bore you with just one picture : )"

This is my district, at least for another month, and I think it's likely that Billig will win. It's a pretty blue spot on the map; my own precinct, in fact, voted in favor of the domestic partnership initiative that passed a while back.

Here's another gem:

And the gem within the gem: "McLaughlin said she was unaware that the statement was false until she began examining it after she was recently contacted by the Public Disclosure Commission."

I have an Andy Billig sign in my yard.

Real America's take on the DNC.....

1- Clinton making the case that:
Obama hasn't gotten the job done-not even close- but, hey!- even a demigod like me couldn't have done it.....(plus reminding everyone how much they miss Bill and what a limp noodle Obama is)

2- The vicious snarling angry rank and file Democraps rejecting God and Jerusalem (with the yummy icing of the total fiasco hamfisted clumsy way in which it was handled, managing to Piss Off and Disgust, literally, every band on the ideological spectrum- the Godless Heathens know they had the votes to defeat the measure but were screwed over and ignored and humiliated and Godfearing Real America not at all fooled by the cosmetic repair to the platform.)
Priceless.........

3- Obama's limp speech, confirming the impression of inadequacy created by Bill's boffo performance and hinting at the job numbers to come....

4- the truly frighteningly GRIM job numbers that rushed in before the hangovers were even gone mocking the Democraps party.

You couldn't make stuff up this good.......

And here's her brilliant statement in response to cutting and pasting her Party's Issues on her web site: "If I had actually been aware that it only had been copied and pasted, I would have made it my own," she told The Inlander Friday.

Is she for real??

It's an interesting dynamic, because Nancy had been planning this run for at least two years, has name value from being on the city council, and had the district get moderately better for Republicans during redistricting. It hasn't worked out for her, at all.

@7

That troll must be taking lessons from McLaughlin;
too lazy to register here, so that their comments show.
