Republican Staffer Pretends to Be Disillusioned Obama Supporter in New Ad

Posted by on Thu, Sep 6, 2012 at 10:26 AM

I wonder if Lyin' Ryan came up with this ad:

Republicans debuted a new ad Thursday in which a frustrated former Obama supporter expresses her disappointment with the president. The only problem: The woman in the video is actually an RNC staffer.

The new ad features Republican National Committee Director of Hispanic Outreach Bettina Inclan, who in the ad purports to be an average woman voter who supported Obama in 2008. She describes her disillusionment with the president in the ad as a romantic relationship gone awry...The RNC says its ad, which first appeared on television Thursday is not dishonest.

Incredible. They couldn't find one single disillusioned Obama supporter? Will the next ad feature Mitt Romney in a fake mustache talking about how his Democratic principles are offended by Barack Obama?

It's not like it's supposed to be a testimonial. It appears as a scripted piece. So it's not surprising that the person is hired, and not really a dis-illusioned Obama supporter.

What's bad is the quality. I haven't seen such a bad video since the last time I was forced to sit through a work-place anti-harrasment training video years ago.

Isn't it possible to be both a disillusioned Obama supporter and an RNC staffer? How long has she worked for them?

You're just amplifying meaningless dirt. Can we get some real analysis please?

C'mon. This is the oldest trick in the book. "I used to be an Obama supporter, but..." "I've always been a lifelong dem, but..." "I'm not a racist, but..."

Agree with everything @3 and @5 said.

Yeah, unless I hear a number on how long she's been with the RNC, I'm not quite seeing the scandal here. My dad was a lifelong Republican until the day Bush, Jr. won the nomination. That day, he told the GOP never to contact him again asking for money, and he campaigned actively for Gore, Kerry, and Obama (by then, his erstwhile political crush, McCain, had become something unpleasant). Switching sides when disillusioned is not unheard of.

Besides, even if this woman didn't work for the RNC, pretending is what actors do.

Idiots. First they let Clint Eastwood lose an argument to an empty chair, and now they're reduced to having one of their own break up with a cardboard cutout.

These people have become utterly detached from reality. What's next? Have Reince try to debate an actual man made out of straw?

Next you'll tell us that wasn't really Obama sitting across from her!

You guys are pathetic.

Real analysis of what? Romney's policies? What would those be? We can't go by his track record because he changes his mind every year. The only question is whether or not he lying now when he tells us (or vaguely hints) what is current positions are. So it all hinges on whether you can trust him and his people.

Obama's policies? We know what those are. We know what he will do: more of the same. You need those re-re-re-re-analyzed again?

Hey everyone who is questioning how long she's been a Republican, try READING the article. It reports that she's been a Republican since before Obama was elected.

:D

If you're going to troll at least TRY to get some facts.

If it were a serious testimonial sponsored by a misnamed PAC, maybe it could be misleading, but this is clearly labeled an RNC and the acting is pretty obvious. This ad is offensive for it's mysogyny.

Wow. She has a web page where she says:
"Among the many roles she has held during her decade in politics, Bettina served as Press Secretary for the Steve Poizner for Governor of California campaign, regional Victory director working to elect Senator John McCain for President, was part of the Bush/Cheney 2004 campaign team and worked on various congressional campaigns."

But it's only an ad, right?
It's only meant to PORTRAY someone who is annoyed like that by the claims made by that Republican staffer which may or may not be 100% factual but in the context of the ad can be assumed to be actual beliefs held by the person portrayed by that Republican staffer.

Damn that's long.
Wouldn't it have been easier to find a photogenic actor who really DID vote for Obama but will now vote for Romney?
No?
Impossible you say?
Well, I guess they had to go with what they had then.
Although the disclaimer that they should have included would be longer than the ad itself.

Not as bad as when Joan Crawford filled in for daughter Christina's role on a soap opera.

Meh, can't care who acts in a scripted ad. It won't be very effective anyway; single-issue homophobes already vote republican. Any homophobe who voted for Obama did so for a host of other reasons they felt were more important.

A more accurate headline would be "Republican staffer not much of an actress" - watching the ad shows it's presented as a skit, not a documentary. If I didn't know who she was I can't imagine mistaking this for some sort of personal testimony. I'd have thought she was some (lousy) actress willing to take a (lousy) gig, and whose personal political views were more or less beside the point.

Paul Ryan was once in an ad as a disillusioned Obama supporter wearing eight fake mustaches while making love to three super-models and summiting Everest.

@3:

Apparently, they couldn't find an actual ACTOR who was so disillusioned with Obama that they'd want to portray a disillusioned Obama supporter on-camera; or even one who still likes Obama, but just wanted the paycheck.

@8:

Just checked the SAG-AFTRA membership database & there's no Bettina Inclan listed. So, you know, calling her an "actor" is something of a stretch (although I'm sure she'd be a non-union actor anyway).

Also, checking her LinkedIn profile, she's been associated with GOP candidates & organizations since at least 2003, so even if she did theoretically "switch sides", she did it long before Obama came on the scene.
