Last night, during closing statements at the Rob McKenna-Jay Inslee debate, McKenna said:

Well, I’d like to thank Congressman Inslee and you, Brian. And the sponsors as well. This just has been terrific. We need more of these and it’s such a great opportunity.

How many more debates between the candidates are currently scheduled?

Only two.

One will be in Yakima on October 2, hosted by the Association of Washington State Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and KCTS. After that, there's going to be one more, in Seattle, on October 16, hosted by KING 5 and the Seattle Times.

According to the Inslee campaign, if McKenna really wants more debates he could have easily said yes to two more of them before the election: one in Tacoma in the last week of September, and another on Q13 on October 6.

"They backed out by saying the date for Tacoma conflicted with a Husky-Stanford game," said Jaime Smith, spokesperson for Jay Inslee, noting that the Tacoma event didn't have to be on one specific day, just sometime in the last week of September. And the reason they backed out of the other debate? "They said the Q13 debate wasn’t high-profile enough," Smith said.

I asked McKenna spokesman Charles McCray III for comment. No response yet.
