Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who Is the Richest Woman of them All

Posted by on Thu, Aug 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM

You are, Gina Rinehart. She not only looks at mirrors, she also has advice for those who are not rich like her.

"If you're jealous of those with more money, don't just sit there and complain," she said in a magazine piece. "Do something to make more money yourself — spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working."

There's the answer for you lazy bums. Stand up, work more, and stop your complaining...

Pick1 2
I don't want to cause a shitstorm, but I will anyway.

Anyway who says women have to be beautiful to get ahead in today's society has never met Gina Rinehart. Jesus Christ I clicked the link and the huge ass photo of her face that was thrown at me actually made me recoil.

I own a t-shirt that says "I'm ugly on the inside too" and I really want to mail it to her.

@2, she inherited her money, of course. (Which makes her stupid comments all the more ironic.)

She didn't have to get ahead in society, she was born ahead. Looks notwithstanding.

She inherited her money. That is all.

Also, I type slowly.

But really people, shouldn't it be possible to bash a woman for being a giant asshole without picking on her looks? Grow the fuck up.

That's Kathy Geiss, right? If so, I can excuse her comment.

Because she's rich she can give advice on working even though she hasn't worked a day in her life? If there's karma, she'll come back as a dog's asshole (and not as a filthy rich bitch who just looks like one).

They have a term Down Under for people like her: "figjam"

The poor aren't even allowed to complain anymore? Only people like her - the wealthy - can complain?

Yeah, the wealthy have it so rough. The government takes so much of their money away to buy canned soup for the homeless that they can't afford to install car elevators in their yachts.

@6, she is going to bash me for me being lazy, im going to bash her for being ugly.

I don't know which is more annoying - the views of the pointlessly rich, or our habit of paying attention to their views.

Australians probably could stand to drink a bit less, though.

@13, they've produced a couple collosal assholes, but let's not be drastic. Seattlites could stand to drink more - particularly at Bumbershoot. Coffee at a Mudhoney show is totally inappropriate.

On top of that it says she got her wealth from her family's business. That makes her a tier 1 asshole. The comments on that article have so many people defending her. They are conservatives, who think one day time will be reversed and they could be born to a rich family.

"There is no monopoly on becoming a millionaire," she said by way of encouragement.

Hm, I'm not so sure she's right about that. Since our money is backed only by debt, not everyone can be wealthy; There is more than $1 of debt for every $1 that is created, so when people hoard dollars, someone else is left swamped with the debt that they cannot pay. It's a zero-sum game. The system requires economic losers (bankruptcy, debt default, etc.) in order for there to be winners. And since money trickles UP to the wealthy, not down, the poor will never be rich no matter what they do.

She's talking completely out of her ass.

It's honestly a little hard to really focus any hate on her for this shit, because that is just such a completely typical, median attitude for a wealthy person to have. It's like, it's such ordinary, unoriginal clueless evil that it's hard to get excited about it. It's the kind of thing a rich person would say on a really mediocre sitcom.

@15, Agreed. And, of course, a hearty chuckle at the attitude of the super-rich that they are generally envied rather than generally thought to be a bunch of spoiled little assholes.

Gina Rhinehart is an expert on getting herself rich, not on the causes of financial hardship and poverty.

It should come as no surprise that her opinion on something she knows nothing about would be an ignorant one.

The only reason this quote was media worthy, is becuase it's a warning for Australians that this person is dangerous because she is lobbying the government to lower taxes.
