Bird's Eye View of Seattle Arts

Posted by on Tue, Aug 28, 2012 at 3:20 PM

Marcie Sillman interviewed David Brewster on KUOW this morning about the sorry state of public funding for art in this city compared to others, about the irreplaceability of Speight Jenkins at Seattle Opera, and about all else cultural across the city. It's a great interview full of tidbits, and you can listen to it here. (It's based on a few recent pieces in Crosscut, found here.) Brewster is about to step down as publisher of Crosscut, which he founded.

Interesting.

Is that funding at all levels, or just high-brow arts in certain neighborhoods that expect more than their fair share?

Hint: if the latter, ask Gates and Allen and Bezos to step up.

Wrote for a magazine also known as Crosscut when I was in high school, it was the product of a Centrum residency at Fort Worden, Port Townsend. I remember the cafeteria spoons had the Seal Of The State Of Washington on them. I always have the most tenuous topical tidbits. I apologize.
