Star Wars Today

Posted by on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 12:17 PM

The story...

Aerofex, an aerospace company in California, has released images and video of its working prototype hover bike. According to the website Innovation News Daily, rotors on the underside of the vehicle provide lift, and the pilot controls the bike by leaning to the left and right (much as a regular bike might work)

The images..

Recall the value Luke's scrappy landspeeder. By selling the machine, he raised enough money to pay for a trip (two humans, two robots) from Tatooine to Alderaan on the Millennium Falcon.

Thanks goes to Ben Demar for the tip.

That hover bike is going to be my main form of transportation at Burning Man this year. But I'm going to arrive by SkyCrane, naturally.

Two humans, two droids and no questions asked. That was the expensive part, as Han points out.

NOTE: Luke Skywalker's land speeder sale (2000) only covered the down payment on the Tattooine-Alderaan run. Obi-Wan Kenobi had to promise Han Solo an additional 15,000 when they reached Alderaan.

@3,

Although Solo himself admitted it was too much and that the "old man" must have been desperate.

But at that price, Luke and Kenobi could have bought their own spaceship.

But then again, who would fly it?

Well, Luke probably could have... he's not a half bad pilot himself.

@5,

And, given that Mos Eisley is a wretched hive of scum and villainy, it's a good bet that they would have gotten a lousy deal on a ship, assuming it was even spaceworthy.

Damn, I was way too late for this party.

All the jokes that instantly popped into my head have all been made.
