Percent of Blacks Supporting Rmoney: 0

Posted by on Thu, Aug 23, 2012 at 9:35 AM

Politico:

President Barack Obama continues to beat Mitt Romney among African American voters with a staggering 94 percent to 0 percent lead, according to a poll released Tuesday.
The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll — which gives Obama and Vice President Joe Biden a small lead over Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan — shows Obama has a massive lead over his Republican rival in the key political base of African-American voters, NBCNews.com reported.
Yes, there is Obama's color, but there is also this hard fact: Rmoney really has nothing to offer the black vote. Compound that fact with this one: Rmoney is just too white. He speaks, thinks, walks like a man who has lived in a country that only has white people. This country is called Wealth.

Oh, that's rich. I love it. In the past, the righ white Republicans have been able to issue a line of patter about success that attracted a few aspirational or conservative black people, but Romney's got none of that. Literally none; zero percent. I think this recession has made it pretty clear who your friends are, and it's not the guys like Romney, who have never had a better time financially than during this recession.

During Paul Ryan's "what kind of people do we want to be?" speech, I kept waiting for the crowd to shout, "RICH WHITE PEOPLE!"

I guess it was implied.

So freakin' sweet... Rmoney will get a few of the white women's votes (the privileged and the brainwashed), a few more of the white men's votes (ditto), and a hopefully insignificant smattering of votes from other, deluded, demographics (like our own GayShill4Rmoney).

Meanwhile, Obama's got a lock on nearly ALL the womens, nearly ALL the people-of-color, nearly ALL the younguns, and all those millions of white men who are NOT so privileged or deluded.

Reminds me of election night '08, seeing the vast crowd of sad whiteys at the McCain capitulation speech, as contrasted to the FAR LARGER, FAR MORE COLORFUL and MUCH MORE LIVELY mega-crowd at the Obama victory celebration.

Shit, which America would YOU like to live in???? she said rhetorically...

@11: in my family its guns, unions, and welfare cheaters. My poor country kin want more of the first, less of the second two, and have been brainwashed by Fox News into believing the Republican party will make that happen.

Hell, some only care about their guns, no other issue matters at all. And they are positive every democrat everywhere will somehow magically ban all guns overnight if ever elected to any office anywhere.

Would be funny if it wasnt for the fact so goddamn much of the country thinks so too.

@10 - I'm sure it's never even been that low for people with my exact first and last name. There are about fifty of us, and I know at least one lives in West Virginia and is a devoted Republican (possibly my mortal enemy?). That means each side is guaranteed at least one voter with my first and last name--two percent of us. Mitt Romney is doing better among people who have my name than with black people.

Black Agenda report...

Obama’s Depraved Indifference

Two years ago this month, BET reporter Andre Showell posed a question to Barack Obama at a press conference to mark the president’s first 100 days in office. Showell noted “double-digit unemployment” among Blacks and asked Obama, “What specific policies can you point to that will target these communities and what's the timetable for us to see tangible results?”
It was one of the First Black President’s greatest “I Have Nothing for the Blacks” moments. “My general approach is that if the economy is strong, that it will lift all boats,” replied the man who had brought millions to the Washington Mall just three months earlier, transforming an inaugural formality into a must-be-there-if-you-are-breathing Great Black Hajj. Obama then offered smug assurances that “folks who are most vulnerable are most likely to be helped because they need the most help.” Under his presidency, the exact opposite would occur.

@8. ken . people saying stupid shit like that makes me sadder.that black people can't be republican makes me sad.even when the bushes ran shit they made attempt sto be inclusive. condoleeza rice, general colin powell may have been the more rational black conservatives here , lame as they turned out to be, i can not even imagine that a colin powell would be welcome to this bullshit, not THIS bullshit, thecurrent rhetorical bullshit, that republicans espouse these people who continously couch their opposition as either- or, black or white , rich or poor, american or terrorist.
you know., i used to know black repiblicans 4 years ago it wasn't rare to be a black conservative. thalking to black republicans was a little maddening, but i could understand where they were coming from..i've know black mormons even,.hell i've known gay black republicans ( i might even know a black bi mormon ) and every single one of them has jumped that ship. every. single. one.
no. what would make me happier is if the opposition in this country engaged in dialogue that aimed to make this country better for ALL americans.black white and everyone else. i would feel better if republicans weren't so hell bent on destroying the toys they don't think they have or control anymore. . i think that debate is healthy, we don't all have to agree all the time or even most of the time. but to be utterly diasgreeable..and there are times i believe that ALL of the opposition eitheris informed by racism or serves racism. entirely. the bullshot they manage to spew every single day, publicly, without any snese of propriety or responsilbility fucking blows my mind..
and makes me very very sad.
a few years ago rush limbaugh openly wished that obama's leadreship would result in the failure this country.. not the failure of the dems, or the liberals or even black people, but of all of us.
i would feel better if republicans entertained that the 'us' that they speak of was inclusive of poor whites, or the poor in general, of women, of the health and well being of all of its citizens, of our progress and leadership in the world community. insted the fear machine hey nurtured during the the years they ran this country, they've turned it around and used it on ourselves. that's some wicked evil shit right there.
and it makes me very very sad.

Good Morning Charles,
I'm not surprised at that kind of support in the African-American community. It might make a difference if they vote in the same proportion as their non-black brethren do. My understanding is they don't.

I also slightly disagree with your "hard fact". African Americans have by & large (overwhelming majority of African Americans) voted Democratic since the 60s. It's merely a given.

What's dissappointing to me about Pres. Obama is he hasn't too much to offer as well:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/magazi…

and

http://www.the-american-interest.com/art…

I agree that a Pres. Romney might not change the condition of the African American Community much. But, the community is in great crisis. It remains so under Obama.

Al Gore got 90% of the black vote in 2000, as did Mondale and Dukakis. Clinton underperformed with numbers in the 80s.

To make a case as to how much race is a factor in black voting patterns, we'd need to see a non-Democrat black nominee (in modern times... Reconstruction doesn't count).

More importantly, black people vote for people who give them money. They're just as likely to accept the fruits of a white man's pity as those of a black man.

Pretty sure the Republican party wants to trim down public services as much as possible. That means black people will probably receive less money. Totally sensible. A lot of people vote according to their wallet. Except for white liberals I suppose; they tend to vote according to their guilt.

As a black person who's from the South I'll say this, blacks tend to vote for politicians who are more for government expansion, which means more government job openings, which many in the black community apply for, which results in more blacks working in government sector. Why government sector over private sector? Job security and highly enforced rules and regulations regarding equality in the work place. Private sector jobs don't provide that job security and a fair work environment, especially in areas like the Bible belt.

So when Rethugs say "smaller government" of course they're not going to get any votes from Blacks. Minorities in general have always benefitted from public sector jobs mainly due to the job security, benefits, and retirement plans than in private sector jobs.

oh and btw, I have many relatives who work in public sector jobs. I also asked them why they didn't choose private sector jobs and they said job security and equality in the work place.

The African-American community has clearly taken Obama's so-called "depraved indifference" to heart.

Of course when Mitt Romney says he's going to "target" African-American communities, he means something a little different, doesn't he?

No surprise here, whatsoever. The Tea Party is the new political home of John Birchers and white supremacists, and the Republican Party has enthusiastically welcomed the Tea Party and its racist constituents. Romney has even openly pandered to them, as evidenced by his speech to the NAACP and his ensuing remarks. Racism, along with anti-secularism, abortion, contraception, and homophobia, is one of the wedge issues the Republicans are exploiting to distinguish themselves from their fellow corporatist sellouts across the aisle. It's a strategy that's demographically doomed in the medium to long term, as whites are soon to become a minority in the US,* but if Republicans can disenfranchise enough Democratic voters through voter ID and felony [drug] conviction laws, it could well prove successful in this and the next election. The sad fact remains that lark's disappointment in Obama (@23) is well founded.

*Also, older homophobes are seemingly not being replaced one-to-one as they die out. I've no idea how attitudes on abortion and contraception are evolving in the younger demographic cohorts.
