The robot rolled forward 4.5m, turned clockwise, and reversed 2.5m—impressive. But one would be more impressed, if not amazed, if the robot had first built a little shelter, a simple structure that it (and in away we) could call home. There in the crater would be a place to return to, a place to get used to, a place to humanize this strange and barren world. Its wonderful to imagine seeing, as it moved this way and that, its home (four supports and a roof) in the distance. Then, and maybe only then, would this world grow on you.
