Not a miracle..it's what science can provide. There is no miracle involved.

You're still arguing Plutarch's paradox, "the ship of Theseus" except here you're claiming that we are no longer humans because we do what humans do, which is invent. I don't buy the "post-human" label as posited, Charles. I realize you have a romantic attachment to the phrase but all of these modern advancements in transplants and gene-therapy are simply accretions to a long history of body-modification to preserve human life or simply to decorate. By your reasoning, The first early human who used a stick as a crutch to mitigate an injury was post-human. The denture, the hook which replaced a hand and the peg leg are all adaptations to loss that prolongs life. None of these things, not even a strangers heart make us other than human.

This are the days of science and technology, but that doesn't stop it from being awfully dusty in here.

I'm an atheist and believe that my son's successful liver transplant is a fucking miracle.

Calling it a 'miracle' cheapens the actual, real-life, non-make-believe efforts that went into making transplants a reality.

I thought the miracle quote was a reference to a Paul Simon song, and it seems apt in that context.

"It's a turn-around jump shot
It's everybody jump start
It's every generation throws a hero up the pop charts
Medicine is magical and magical is art
The Boy in the Bubble
And the baby with the baboon heart

And I believe
These are the days of lasers in the jungle
Lasers in the jungle somewhere
Staccato signals of constant information
A loose affiliation of millionaires
And billionaires and baby
These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long distance call
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation
That's dying in a corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don't cry baby, don't cry
Don't cry"
