Shooter Injures One in Office of Christian Lobbying Group

Posted by on Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 11:52 AM

A gunman entered the Family Research Council's offices and fired shots, injuring a security guard:

The guard, who was shot in the shoulder, was conscious and breathing after the incident. A suspect, who ABC 7's Jennifer Donelan reports was led out of the building in handcuffs, is in custody.

The suspect was taken into custody by the FBI and was being interviewed. Officials say that they not sure about a motive, however, sources say that the suspect walked into the office, made a statement and opened fire.

It is not known that the suspect said; however, multiple sources tell Donelan that the overtones of his statement led to federal law enforcement officials becoming involved in the investigation.

Now conservative pundits are complaining about the media not covering the shooting because it doesn't fit the left-wing media bias about only conservatives being violent. The ugly truth is, the media isn't covering the shooting because nobody died. Have you paid attention to the news lately? You need to kill at least three people in a shooting spree to get more than thirty seconds of attention from the major cable networks.

Furthermore, they don't know what the shooter's motive was. We have no idea who he was or why he did it.

Remember all the tsk-tsking when liberals assumed the man who tried to murder Gabrielle Giffords was some kind of right winger? Way to jump the gun.

But... Doesn't DC have gun control? Gee, how is this crime even possible?

That wasn't witty when Dana Loesch tweeted it this morning kitschnsync, and it's even less witty now.

Thank God no one was hurt. And at least it gives the troll something to be all outragey about.

I know it seems unlikely, but wouldn't it be refreshing to see the media actually wait until they knew what the hell was going on before doing any in-depth reporting based purely on hearsay and speculation?

You know, wait to report the news until there is actual news to report?

@3: Thank you for promoting national gun control laws! You are right, that is the only way they will work.

Someone shooting up the offices of the Family Research Council is exactly as horrifying as someone shooting up a fucking movie screening. (But yeah, body count plays a role in coverage.)

Sometimes sarcasm is meant to inform, not necessarily to amuse.

I'm also glad the security guard is OK.

The media's not covering it? Bullshit. I heard this story on NPR a couple of times this morning. You know, that news source that conservative pundits want to de-fund.

Whatever radio station my co-work listens to reported that some guy sat on his gun wrong at the move theater(is there a correct way to sit on your gun?) and shot himself in the butt. He apologized to everyone and drove himself to the hospital. That is one well-regulated militant right there.

It's the number 3 item on Google News at the moment, which is pretty damn high for a non-fatal GSW in the USA.

You generally have to be shot by the vice president to get that kind of coverage.

If nobody's covering it, I'm surprised, considering the media's eagerness to provide all possible viewpoints to an issue.

They've been covering it extensively in the DC viewing area. The shooter looks to be pretty crazy. I'm sincerely greatful that nobody was killed. Violence is never a valid response to hate.

@7, meh. Reminds me more of that comedy bit where the klan member sets his own robes on fire.
