HIV-Positive Youth Pastor Allegedly Lured "Child" Using Circa-2006 Internet Tactics

I can't believe people seriously still try this:

An HIV positive youth pastor at a church in Courtice is accused of luring a 15-year-old boy online and attempting to meet the youngster for “a sexual encounter.”

Durham Regional Police claim the 42-year-old Newcastle man, who allegedly used collegetoy2033 as his profile name, befriended the teen online not knowing the boy was actually an undercover Internet Child Exploitation unit officer.

“Investigators met the accused at the prearranged location and after being taken into custody, it was determined (he) is a youth pastor with the (Trulls Road) Free Methodist Church in Courtice, Ontario, and has travelled extensively over the last decade,” Det. Randy Norton said Friday.

However, he was quick to point out “this luring incident is in no way connected to the church.”

Even in the heyday of To Catch a Predator, the Internet-child-luring scare was hugely overblown. Yet, allegedly, this still happens. At least in Canada.

I think child-luring has evolved into a closed-loop system between would-be pedos and undercover agents. They exist to give each other something to do. It's rather symbiotic really.

I get that it adds a level of extra danger, but is there some reason we needed to know his HIV status for this story?

In no way connected to the church? But he was a youth pastor there. That's the connection!

It's funny because if a Muslim imam commits a crime most of your stalwart Christians have no trouble seeing the connection.

Sir, why don't you have a seat?

I miss "To Catch a Predator," even though they still show reruns on MSNBC. It was comedy gold!

Well, Unpaid Intern, I'm not sure how overblown the problem might be, but these kinds of stings are an easy way for law enforcement to rake in those who would molest kids. You'd think that it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to avoid these traps, but you'd be wrong, as this story reports: http://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/…

These stings are still being staged over and over again, and the perp's keep showing up. I'm going to have to say that in this incidence you have earned your salary, Unpaid Intern.

Never forget that the church recycles these guys worldwide. Any world church.

Easiest way to ignore the problem - send them on a mission.

AKA avoiding the long arm of the law.

If you have been diagnosed with HIV then your immediate reaction might be to feel denial or depression. However, you will soon realize that you do not have to maintain such a bleak outlook on life. There are many HIV dating sites like PositiveFishes.c o m where hiv positive singles like you can meet many more people who share the same problem. You'll find it very easy to get a fulfilling social life as long as you remember to follow certain HIV dating tips.
