What's a Romneycare?

Posted by on Thu, Aug 9, 2012 at 11:44 AM

Remember yesterday, when a Romney spokesperson acknowledged the existence of Romneycare and Republicans became outraged all over again that Mitt Romney was their candidate? There must have been hell to pay inside the Romney campaign yesterday, because Republican representative Marsha Blackburn goes out of her way to not acknowledge the fact that Mitt Romney created Romneycare. She won't even admit Romneycare exists, under heavy questioning. It's a brilliant bit of squirming:

I would love to take a look at the memo that must've circulated among Republicans yesterday demanding that every surrogate move heaven and earth to not admit the existence of Romneycare. Blackburn seems scared shitless of the possibility that she might make a slipup.

Hilarious as this was to watch, this interview is pretty illustrative of the general shittiness of TV news. "I'm specifically asking you to react to her comment, you know, I played you her soundbyte" doesn't exactly resound with journalistic rigor.

"But we're talking about Mitt Romney here."

Too bad nobody in the Romney camp is.

If you say "Romneycare" three times in a row, it summons up a bio-exorcist (looking suspiciously like Michael Keaton) who will attempt to banish Mitt Romney to the afterlife in a scary-but-humorous fashion.

Sweet Jesus, just when you thought you couldn't be any more enthusiastic about the debates. I hope the Romney camp has their seat belts fastened.

The video has been taken down.

You are all now forbidden from discussing that you are forbidden from discussing Romneycare.

Any residents of Massachusetts are kindly requested NOT to use any health care for the next three months, as this might remind Republicans that Romneycare exists. Thanks for understanding.
