Uh, good riddance, maybe, in the way Dad didn't intend?

Theodore Gorath 4
I will never understand parents who think their children are failures for not turning out exactly like them.

That man is simply a coward who is running scared from his own son.

Please don't send me any presents? Um, I really wasn't planning on it.

Also, it is OUR family, hurtful motherfucker.

Top response on that letter is a response from a much better father. If you're not done crying, give that one a go.

Those people have extremely punchable faces, and they're from my hometown.

Reverse Polarity 8
For anyone wondering why some young gay people today are still afraid to come out, I present exhibit B.

We've made a lot of progress over the last couple of decades, but hateful motherfuckers still exist.

@7: You realize "those people" from Olympia are pro-gay marriage, right?

@8 -- the letter is from 15 years ago. Not to say your larger point is not still valid.

The words "Goodbye, Dad" punched me right in the chest. Awful. How could any parent write those words?

Cato the Younger Younger 15
My parents disowned me for being gay back in 1995 and I haven't spoken to them since.

And to be honest, my life has been better for it. Family isn't blood, it's who you chose to be your family. I mean, anyone can crap a kid out and rear it.

HOT PUSSY 17
Anyone capable of writing such a letter to his son isn't even human, much less a 'Dad.' Fuck you, your misguided fuck.

I almost couldn't watch the video after reading the letter. I'm so glad I did though cause it just reaffirmed my optimist view that all the world isn't made up of bigots and fucktards.

If you're part of a religion that says "Honor thy mother and father," how come that's not a two-way street? If your child is willing to honor you as their parent, how can you not honor them as your child? Huh?

@7 -- Huh. My parents have "extremely punchable faces"? Wow. Such a loving, caring attitude toward people in their 70s who have spent the last two decades fighting for gay rights. In regard to my Mom's lovely face, the producers asked Mom (73) if she'd mind removing her nose pierce because it might cause conflict in those undecided voters they're targeting. She wasn't thrilled but went along because they're determined to do whatever they can to get R-74 approved in Washington, and have a positive impact on other states as well. Thanks to all the rest of you who have posted such positive responses toward their ad! I'm amazed to see how this ad has circulated on the web today. Really proud of my folks, given that the journey didn't start off so well back in the 80s. (The turmoil was actually when my older brother came out, not my younger one -- featured in the photos.)

@21 Please pass on our deepest gratitude to your wonderful parents. I'm not gay myself, but several of my friends and fellow congregants at our Quaker meeting are, and our entire meeting believes that all people are equal. We wish everyone could commit themselves to fully respecting and treating them that way. Your parents are a shining example.
