Mitt Romney's Pretty Dancing Pony, Rafalca, Does Not Advance in Olympic Dressage

Posted by on Tue, Aug 7, 2012 at 2:09 PM

What a disappointment! (Cue ten thousand jokes about Rafalca riding home in the shame-basket strapped to the top of the plane.) Ann Romney insists she's sticking with dressage, and says she will consider breeding from Rafalca (not breeding with Rafalca, as was originally reported on Twitter) because "I think she’d make a great brood mare.” Basically, this means: No medal, but plenty of sex. Happy trails, Rafalca, you beautiful, prancing, dancing pony. We'll miss you so, so much.

So she's turning her horse into the typical Mormon wife?

Actually, for the record there will be no sex. Warmbloods are RARELY bred via live cover as it is dangerous to both mare and stallion. With horses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes millions you don't do risky things like that. Also, the very best dressage stallions are almost always stationed in Europe making live cover breeding infeasible. Breeding is almost exclusively done with AI using frozen semen.

its apparent that the rmoneys just weren't willing to work hard enough to have the success they wanted. if only they'd applied the lessons found in the book of mormon.

Sigh.

So much wasted money.

At least a certain friend of John Stewart got a nice hat out of it.

Meh, not really a waste of money at all. Rafalca is a drop dead gorgeous mare with a top notch pedigree and a solid Olympic performance. She didn't medal but she had two very lovely tests. She will be bred to the top stallions and with a proven pedigree and performance record her foals will fetch top dollar. She will likely generate far more income in her breeding career than as a riding horse.

Oh! Rafalca is a horse!
Rafalca is a horse!
Well, look at her dance!
Well, look at her go!
Look at her dance like a horse!

@6, don't ALL of these horses make more money breeding? it's not like there's huge stacks of cash in dressage, is there?

Yeah, the stallion gets to come in a leather sleeve, and the mare gets the turkey baster. At least the stallion gets an orgasm out of the deal.

Oh. Dressage. I thought it was competing in Frottage.

I figured I could give it a run for it's money. But I guess not. I don't know a thing about Dressage.

@5 (Will in Seattle): First, it's spelled Jon Stewart, and second, it wasn't a hat, it was a tiara fit for a princess! (I'm still squealing from the excitement! But my foam finger is drooping from the crushing disappointment of Rafalca's loss...)

@10, Will is talking about his imaginary friend John Stewart, who has a hat. This is his second or third pointless, incomprehensible hat-related comment today. Please don't try to communicate with him; he may post again.

Not only did the Romney horse lose, but two teams with gays (Britain's Carl Hester and Netherlands' Edward Gal) took medals in the team events (Gold and Bronze, respectively).

LOL @12, Its cute that you think that is noteworthy... Sadly for us straight dressage ladies you can just about guarantee that if a guy rides dressage he's gay. It's extra unfortunate when they are as handsome as Ed Gal and Carl Hester, who I met last year is also one of the nicest guys ever on top of it. The few straight guys in the sport get mobbed and snapped up immediately. Too bad more don't catch on to that fact :)

At least she's not selling her for glue or food.
