Seattle's Queen Won't Talk Shit

Posted by on Sun, Aug 5, 2012 at 3:40 PM

Queen Underwood, a 28-year-old lightweight from Seattle, became the first American woman to appear in an Olympic boxing match, losing to Great Britain’s highly ranked Natasha Jones (21-13) at London’s ExCeL arena on Sunday in a preliminary. [...]

How did she feel about the effort in a tough draw? “If I could curse, I would say the S-word,” said Underwood. “I hope the people who supported me can look at my journey as a champion instead of the outcome of the win or lose.”

Queen, you rock. You can come home and say the S-word all you like.

Speaking of racism...the British announcer on the women's marathon right now on King 5.

Gee whiz...this guy practically leap out of his spat's when a Russian joined the pack of non-white women. He pretty much only focused on her, and used her name, depersonalizing the four others!

Talk about the 50s, this guy is something from the Boer War...1890s.

Little boy, you score vewwy well at observational skills, highest in the class, a B+. Now since you had nothing to say about the boxer, run along and start your own blog.

My comment was a response to the blended topics of this article and the previous.

4 - Ohhhh, the "tough draw" was related to racism. I didn't make the connection. I still think you should have your own blog for your ramblings. You're too intelligent to be a parasite like me.

The thing is, and maybe you and the rest of you "locals" should grab a clue, is that the SLOG "neighborhood" is changing.

It used to be home to a bunch of derelict schizo crackheads, but year after year the scope and quality of the best comments has gone up to the highest levels of journalism.

Meanwhile, a bunch of hangers on such as yourself sit around and shoot spitballs at the kids who are trying to de-bully the place.

Pretty soon there won't be much of your kind left...so I suggest you take your own advice and find some new, dumber and less talented friends on Reddit or some where.

Supreme Ruler, honey, you are making even less sense than usual.
The "tough draw" refers to the fact that the last time Queen fought her opponent in today's fight, she lost, and that hurt her confidence this time around.
It was a great fight, but a heart breaker.

If I didn't know it, I'd say you were Fnarf given that delicious vocabulary.

But really, this is about Queen Underwood, or a tough draw, or racism, or rooting for the hometeam, or being a transplant.

"derelict schizo crackheads" - are you sure you didn't get that from Fnarf?

When she gets home, I want Mike McGinn to present her a crown studded with emeralds and lead a parade with her carried down Pike Street on a divan

That was a good fight. But it came down to composure. Queen had way superior aggression and ringsmanship. But Jones stayed composed and had fantastic footwork combined with an unusual south paw style. When queen slipped and fell (yes, I realize she was hit - but I don't think knocked down really) in the 3rd (?) she never regained her composure, instead trying to compensate with more aggression.

Jones methodically threw fewer shots but landed more.

Personally I thought the judges were a little harsh. Queen deserved more than 13 points. But I wasn't ringside. So who knows. On the slo-mo you could see Queen take a couple of very solid lefts.

Jones had her work cut out for her against Irelands Katie Taylor (fucking INCREDIBLE fighter), though. She lost this morning 26-15. TAKE THAT, ENGLAND!

Queen is great. I've not trained with her (though I have been to Cappy's when she was there a few times) I trained in Thai boxing with some of Queen's sparring partners. And I know they are very good.

All the fights were exciting. Great fighters. The Swedish heavy weight Anna Laurell in particular— against the big hearted Aussie who a put up a ferocious fight. Great match.

Side note: Though the Chinese Jinzi Li win seemed very fishy too me. Roseli Feitosa kicked her ASS. I smell a fix there.
