If You Bought Jonah Lehrer's Book, You Can Get Your Money Back

Posted by on Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 3:46 PM

Now that it's come out that Jonah Lehrer made up several Bob Dylan quotes in his bestselling book Imagine, his publisher has stopped selling the book both in physical and e-book formats. (Although Seattle Public Library has 75 copies, if you're curious.) In addition, if you bought the book, you can get a full refund between now and December 31st. Galleycat has more information:

If you want a refund from the hardcover book, you can take the book back to the bookstore where you bought it. Digital book buyers must “submit requests to the retailer from which the eBook was originally purchased.”

Galleycat also listed a physical address to which you can mail your book to get your money back. There are currently no plans to give you back the time it spent to read the book.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the SPL would return, say, 65 of those copies? I feel like as a taxpayer I want my money back.

Still hoping that Dylan's lawyers sue this kid back to preschool for using their client's fame in a fraudulent enterprise. Apologies aren't good enough - this was no accident. Lehrer has displayed a pattern of this kind of deception.

I'm curious: Beyond losing his career and destroying his reputation, how does Lehrer pay for his deception? Will he owe his publisher all of the advance and royalty money they paid him?
