Romney Aide Tells Press to "Kiss my ass" at Holy Site

Posted by on Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 10:34 AM

This morning, Mitt Romney's traveling press secretary Rick Gorka* lost his shit on reporters who dared to ask Romney a question at a press event. When a reporter from the New York Times tried to explain that the press corps has only been allowed to ask Romney three questions in his three-country tour, Gorka really lost his shit:

Gorka: "Show some respect"

NYT: "We haven't had another chance to ask a question..."

Gorka: "Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect."

The weird thing is, a surprisingly high number of people on Twitter and in comments are siding with Gorka on this. Let me provide some context: When you're in the traveling press corps and you're stationed at a press event, the assumption is that you'll have some access to the candidate. Romney gave several blowjob interviews to the major networks during this trip (even though Romney fucked up the Brian Williams interview that launched his D-Day in London, that was still a blowjob interview) but he has basically used the traveling press corps on this trip as a prop, to make him look like an important man with a bunch of well-dressed people in tow.

I don't blame them for asking Romney questions when they thought they had a chance to get some access. If he hosted regular press conferences like a normal presidential candidate, the corps would have the luxury of showing some respect at press events like this. As it is, they had to take an opportunity, and the man who's purportedly responsible for providing access to the candidate used a vulgar word at a "holy site" to indicate their lack of respect. Which is real respectful.

* I'm calling dibs on the title Gorka: The Press Secretary That Traveled Like a Man. It'll be a black and white 50s-style sci-fi horror movie, and the climactic scene will involve the press pulling Gorka's rubber mask off, revealing a fish-faced alien who then shouts, "Kiss my ass, planet Earth!"

If we parse Gorka's comment the same way the Rmoney team parsed "You didn't build that," then I think Gorka just said his ass was a holy site for the Polish people.

Wouldn't that be: "Gorka: The Press Secretary *Who* Traveled Like a Man"?

Meh...the writhing mass of the red-blooded American public loves watching campaigns kick the shit out of the press. How dare they ask questions! The unmitigated gall of the Liberal Mainstream Media!

Does Romney ever talk to his staff? Does he even know he has a staff?

What the press and everyone else doesn't seem to understand is that "running government like a business" means "do what the boss tells you". Romney as executive of a privately-held corporation doesn't have to answer to stock holders since there aren't any. Welcome to a world where you are not a citizen but an employee who may be out-sourced at any time.

Especially shocking considering how often Obama holds press conferences and takes impromptu questions from the pool. (Which is nearly never...)

I don't mean to be unnecessarily snarky here, but, yeah, newsflash: religion makes people dumb, inconsistent, and defensive, especially when combined with hostile partisanship.

@7: Your inability to distinguish between a silent response and someone saying "Kiss my ass" may have some social implications for you that you might want to reflect upon.
