LIVE: City Councilmembers Explain Their Arena Concerns

Posted by on Mon, Jul 30, 2012 at 12:50 PM

Bottom line, for those who missed the livestream: The councilmembers stressed, over and over, that this is a step in the negotiating process and not some "poison pill" meant to scuttle the arena deal.

Thanks for posting a link to it. Good to hear O'Brien, Clark, and Burgess describe the the Council's thinking in pushing back like this, and frame it as a negotiation. I hope those who've insisted the public's only option was to take Hansen's initial offer might begin to realize what a bonkers approach to public policy that would have been.

I applaud their caution. I wish that they (excluding O'Brien of course) had taken the same approach to the deep bore tunnel.

What a joke the city council is. They decide to go public with their letter, to "negotiate", months into the process, and on the very day the King County Council is expected to approve the proposal? Pathetic. It's painfully entertaining watching the anti-arena crowd rally around fox news style reporting, lies, and political ineptitude.
