"The Woman in Red": Indian officials are searching for the opening ceremony castmember who stole the show by ignoring the costume instructions.

Today: The US men's basketball team already won their game. Next up: Gymnastics, swimming.

Scalia Says Guns Could Be Regulated: The notoriously conservative Supreme Court Justice says there's room in the Second Amendment to regulate gun ownership.

Speaking of Gun Control: A Renton man was shot 3 times last night while attending a candlelight vigil for someone else shot and killed in Renton the previous night.

King County Judge Broke Rules to Support Amanda Knox: And now he explains why he did it.

Bellevue Kidnap Attempt: This time the intended victim was 18 years old, and the would-be kidnapper has not been found.

In the spirit of multicultural celebration, here is a recent masterpiece Korean music video:

So that judge broke rules pretty much because his daughter influenced him to. I wonder what other decisions this girl has influenced.

Are Mormons exempt from military service? If we war with Iran we should draft Utah.

The U.S. should start paying students' tuitions if they get medical or engineering or science degrees (anything that's vital and needed... so not law or business or art degrees or anything)

Why is Scalia all over the place now? He's designated himself the Supreme Court's media star? And shouldn't judges be careful of what opinions the spout publicly? It just gives me a bad feeling.

Why should a young person go into medicine these days? I was talking with my doctor, a liberal democrat I always assumed, and he was already lamenting the regulations of the affordable care act - in particular the precise time he must do an EKG in order for something to be covered.

We might as well go straight to single-payer rather than Obamacare, doing so might at least remove the insurance layer of red-tape and facilitate the care the doctor can give to his or her patient.

Back when Clinton tried to tackle health coverage, the medical schools lowered the amount of students. When it failed, they never raised the acceptance rate back up to the previous norm. We've been artificially short of graduating doctors ever since.

The U.S. WOMEN'S basketball team also won their first game. And who's on that team? Sue BIrd, a player for the ONLY Seattle sports franchise to ever win a championship TWICE. Try to let the XXs shine as much as the XYs in your coverage a bit please?

Of course guns can be regulated. Even an "originalist" like Scalia can't ignore that pesky first clause of the second amendment.

I watched some of the women's cycling this morning. During the race, they cut away for an interview with Michele Obama. She talked about how much energy she felt there and how inspiring she found the athletes and how wonderful Britain is.

I think that's the way you're supposed to do it.

Meanwhile, Mittwit is out trying to start a war with Iran that his boys will never fight in, after doing what he can to ensure that the UK won't offer support for that war.

The shortage of doctors is due to limited residency spots.

There have actually been several new medical schools opening recently which has increased the number of American MDs and DOs. However, this just increases the percentage of residency spots taken by American doctors instead of increasing the numbers of total doctors

But, you know, yeah, you're pretty much correct.

@11 Single-Payer has always been the most sensible solution. Everyone knows the essential problem, which are the insurance companies. They have no incentive to provide health care, and they are the main architects empowered to provide it. They make tons of money, and thus they have bought the Republicans outright, and enough Dems to prevent anyone from interfering w/ their racket.

"Obamacare" is the Republican half-assed compromise to show they're trying to provide Americans with health care. It really is a bad piece of legislation, but it's better than nothing. Which is what we've had for the past thirty years, where the Republicans studiously ignored that there is even a crisis. They continue that farce today, in the face of every available evidence showing that they're wrong. Well, no surprise there.

Obama tried to do an end-around giving America the Republican solution, and then watch as the Republicans denied it. It's a smart strategy, except that we're still dealing w/ the mega-billion dollar conservative propaganda machine. Liberal media my ass. But it's only a compromise, not a real solution. The only solution is to remove the insurance industry from the equation: make them parsley on the dish, instead of the entire kitten kaboodle.

well speech is a right and we regulate the hell out of that. don't believe me? "I do" are words that carry consequnces, also see: defamation; fraud; contracts; obscenity; or "yes I agree to commit that crime" -- all speech that's regulated.

as to "arms" only the truly crazy nra type nutsos would disagre we can ban arms such as tanks, nuclear weapons, bazookas. yessit, i doth believe scalia would uphold a national law banning you and I form owning an ICBM -- despite it clearly being "arms" we have a "right" to "keep" if the 2a is literally read. so then, we can ban AWs, too, large purchases of ammo, etc. Even say handguns like Texas did back in the 1800s -- their courtupheld this against a challenge based on the state individual right to bear arms. The entire notion if it's an individual right, then we can't regulate it, is totally bogus right? or think of it this way. you have aright to marry. so does that mean we can't have laws about marriage? or banning certain kinds of marriage, such as you and your goat?

then we can to manner of use of permitted arms types of regulation, who can use or keep, etc., yessir we can totally enact british style gun controls (there's only a highly limited right to get a license to carry; only 4% have guns) for the vast majority of thepopulation, if we do have a well regulated millitia in place then perhaps most peopl only get to keep the rifle or gun they have that's part of their militia duties.

in some neighborhoods in nyc la chicago etc. I think people SHOULD form millitia and provide some street safety, I wonder why they don't. certainly the cops are not providing safety against the wave of criminal types armed to the teeth with guns. so, controls yes, militia, yes, regulations, yes, and the notion these things are banned, nope, that's a big old lie. and yes the supremes were wrong in the DC case, DC should be able to ban handguns just like tombstone banned guns in town.

Health insurance doesn't insure health, it insures wealth.

It spreads costs for things an individual cannot afford like replacing a home in a fire, to many. As such, it uses intricate math to sell a product and make a profit.

All inclusive healthcare using a universal tax does the same thing but using brute force economics and mandates instead of profit and self preservation motives.

@18 Glad to hear there's at least some improvement by now. Great way to force higher earnings per doc, but lousy in every other way. It's not just the insurance companies that have gotten used to the gravy train.

Of course, the super rich have long been pushing for a nucke strike on Iran:

Chris Mellon, when he was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence during the early part of the Bush #2 administration, was one of those leakers who led the way in that matter.

That would be Chris Mellon, of the Mellon family, descendant of Andrew Mellon, who truly screwed things up for America leading up to the Great Crash and the Great Depression.

Mellon would leave that position when Mellon Financial merged with the Bank of New York, etc.

Rockefellers, Du Ponts, Morgans, Mellons, Kochs, etc., always want those wars to be waged.

What was it that Eugene Debs once said, the super rich declare the wars, but the working people are those who do the fighting, or something to that effect?

@24 Economy of Scale somehow becomes "brute force economics" when you introduce it to a nonprofit governmental model? Private insurance companies can charge over 30% management and operation costs compared to under 7% for Medicare, plus, you don't get kicked off when you actually need it. For profit sounds way more brutish to me.

AND that the participants volunteered to do the ceremonies. Socialism at work...taking care of the common good. Such a good solid British value.

Considering they will not allow you to watch the internet stream unless you have a cable subscription..

A colleague and I discussed how this is like only being able to listen to iTunes while connected to a licensed 8 track player.

The Dutch East India company would have been more appropriate since at one point 25% of the Earth's counties were subjugated to it.

Interesting...reading about healthcare in Switzerland

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_…

It sounds a lot like the public/private Romnobamacare we ended up with.

Mandatory for people to pay into the system with subsidies and fees based on income.
