FBI Raids Homes Across Northwest—Looks Like They Might Be Targeting Anarchists

Posted by on Thu, Jul 26, 2012 at 10:28 AM

FBI agents and local police who are part of the Joint Terrorism Task Force raided multiple houses in Portland, Olympia, and Seattle yesterday morning—but it's still unclear what the authorities were looking for, exactly.

No arrests were made in the raids and the warrants for the searches are sealed, which means they're not public record. The most the FBI will say is the raids are part of an "ongoing violent crime investigation." They issued grand jury subpoenas to individuals in all three cities.

However, the Oregonian talked with the owner of one of the three homes in NE Portland who said the FBI may have been seeking a group of "anarchists" who lived there a year ago and ran an info booth at Last Thursday. In Portland, the three houses raided were 4820 NE 31st Ave, 7129 NE 8th Ave, and 6846 N. Greenwich. It's not clear whether this is related, but earlier this month, police raided the home of Occupy Mayday protesters in Seattle.

KGW has some shots of the agents in the raid. It's a pretty heavy duty squad:

This is a clear example of one of the controversial issues about Portland being a part of JTTF. The FBI can work with police to raid Portlanders' houses, but then not make public any information about it... except maybe include some details in a bare-bones report about their involvement down the line. Until then, we're in the dark.

This is part of what you sign up for, when you advocate overthrowing the state or "civilization" by violence, or when you continually say all over the internet that the police should be executed. You want out of the social compact, yet you think the State is going to uphold their end? I thought the raison d'etre for being a revolutionary was because we live in a police state? Who does a police state go after when there are revolutionaries running around? Liberals?

Or, does all of this not get mentioned when one signs up for their local revolutionary collective or affinity group? And no less, at the behest of "older activists" who know better then to let anyone but their young idealistic proxies do their work? Did any of them warn you based on their years of experience that you might go to prison?

Yesterday morning, you mean. Weird how these Portland Mercury posts wait a day before posting on Slog - is it some kind of rule? Anyway, thanks for following this.

Let's set aside, for the time being, a discussion about the troubling tactics of sending paramilitary police after window smashers.

My question is: How is our intrusive national surveillance state unable to figure out when someone hasn't lived someplace for a year?

Hold up, gimme one right here, hold up

You don't give money to the bums?
On the corner with a sign, bleeding from their gums?
Whacha talking, you don't support a crackhead
What you think happens to the money from yo' taxes?

Shit the government's the addict
With a billion dollar a week killin' brown people habit
And even if you ain't on the front line
When the master yell crunch time you right back at it

You ain't look at how you hustling backwards
And the end of the year add up what they subtracted
3 outta twelve months your salary
Paid for that madness, man that's sadness

What's left get a big ass plasma
To see where they made Dan Rather point the damn camera
Only approved questions get answered
Now stand your ass up for that national anthem

Welcome to the united snakes
Land of the thief, home of the slave
Grand imperial guard where the dollar is sacred and power is God...

Good thing there are no massive financial frauds being perpetrated against our entire nation right now or anything.

Move along--nothing to see here, morans!

Wow, this is a pretty frightening turn of events when participants in a pretty widespread political movement like Occupy Wall Street find their doors smashed in by armed paramilitary troops. I'm frightened to think what America is going to be like 5 or 10 years from now. I would have loved to have seen similar military action against the Wall Street Companies, Financial Firms and politicians that stole billion and trillions of our tax dollars and personal wealth a few years ago.

And to expand on what's going on in Europe (a mirror image of the USA):

http://www.zeit.de/datenschutz/malte-spi…

Green party politician Malte Spitz sued to have German telecoms giant Deutsche Telekom hand over six months of his phone data that he then made available to ZEIT ONLINE. We combined this geolocation data with information relating to his life as a politician, such as Twitter feeds, blog entries and websites, all of which is all freely available on the internet.

By pushing the play button, you will set off on a trip through Malte Spitz's life. The speed controller allows you to adjust how fast you travel, the pause button will let you stop at interesting points. In addition, a calendar at the bottom shows when he was in a particular location and can be used to jump to a specific time period. Each column corresponds to one day.

Thought police. If the hillbillies in this country defined freedom as anything more than right to bear arms, there'd be an uproar.

@12:

> First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

>Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

>Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

>Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

You don't know that these people did anything at all. Please think before you advocate police state tactics.

@13 No, sorry, these people are criminals and the job of the police is to arrest criminals. They are not being targeted because they are anarchists, though they would love for naive folks like yourself to believe that, they are being targeted because they are violent criminals with no respect for others.

The moment you start smashing things is the moment I stop giving a fuck about whatever cause you think is so important and want nothing more than for you to be arrested and put in jail.

Its just plain rude.

Then why weren't they arrested? If you smash windows in a protest we're going to send the FBI to your home and take all your electronic equipment? Give me a fucking break troll. Wait till it happens to someone you know, if you know many activists. If the state has a problem with you they should accuse you of something in open court and get it the fuck over with. These are harassment tactics targeting people who had less to do with the violence than the people who were outed as agent provocateurs.

The moment you start trading on an international scale and care more about your profits than the lives of the people you employ is the moment I stop giving a fuck about your windows. Stop all the window breakers you want, we make more every single day. You want an arms race? An eye for an eye? Violence in and violence out. It's just plain rude.

@ 14, for your information, anarchism IS illegal in the united states on both a federal level and in 42 states plus alaska and hawai.
no not only actually plotting the overtrow of the government but even advocating it (and thus any actual anarchist is punishable by law with up to 20 years in federal prison and the loss of citizenship); http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_an…

land of the free indeed...

@15 For all you bitch about rights you don't seem to understand them. In order to arrest you the police need a little thing called probable cause. That means they either see you committing a crime and arrest you right then, or they gather evidence and then if it is sufficient arrest you. To gather that evidence they get search warrants that require a somewhat less showing than arrest warrants.

This was a raid and subpoena round up for young folk that protested police brutality in Spokane WA. about five years age in regards to the handicap man that was beaten to death by Spokane police. All the kid (at the time) on the 4th of July had dressed up in fake cop outfits and did a march that ended at the city park where they stopped to have lunch. The Spokane police began to swarm the kids as they ate there vegan lunch and started taking pictures of the kids. The camera being only inches from their face one of the youth put his hand up to ask the officer to please give him some space and at the moment the cop pounced the kids, zip tied them and staked them like human logs! Almost all these kids were strait edge and virgins, with no priors arrest. After much up row by the public all charges were dropped against the kid for the most part. Two of them still had charges brought against them do to the fact that a short time later they changed themselves to the door of a circus to protest animal cruelty. At the time the photo’s where taken our states police force sold these kids out as anarchist to the FEDs, all well knowing they would doom these poor kids for life to be put on a watch list for been exactly what our forefathers were Anarchist. For both Gorge Washington and Benjamin Franklin were charge with and found guilty of been anarchist. The thing is, you got to ask yourself is when did our state sellout to Governmentism and no longer supports patriotism, for these kids where just practicing their patriotic rights to assemble and now they’re looking at a life on the run or possible jail time just for abiding by their constitutional rights. These kids of our fair state do no deserve this kind of treatment and if the public does not take a stand now it will be your home the FEDs come to next.
