Off to bed soon, but first a quick comment on the Seattle Times endorsement of Reagan Dunn for Attorney General. I mean, it's not like it comes as a surprise or anything, but honestly... huh?

Our preference for Dunn begins with legal experience, which is crucial for the office of attorney general. Dunn was a federal prosecutor in Miami, Washington, D.C., and Seattle, working here under former U.S. Attorney John McKay. Dunn knows the courtroom, having prosecuted violators of drug, gun, child-porn and financial laws.

First of all, as even Rob McKenna will tell you, 99 percent of the work of the attorney general's office involves civil law, not the prosecutorial work for which the editors laud Dunn. So this line is just plain stupid. Second of all, apart from a possible preening before the US Supreme Court in a gimme appeal (again, an example of civil law) the AG rarely sets foot inside a courtroom. So much for that.

Dunn's courtroom experience is strong, and it outmatches his opponent's. He has been an effective councilman.

Um, what the fuck are these two sentences doing directly next to each other in the same paragraph? I know times are tough in the newspaper biz, but somebody buy this writer a transition.

Those are résumé reasons to vote for Dunn. There is also a political reason.

Okay, no need to read any further. The Seattle Times wants an attorney general who will use his office politically, rather than, say, you know, to uphold the law. Typical. And of course they're looking to set Dunn up as the next Republican standard bearer. Figures.
