Block Party Politics: Jay Inslee Strongly Supports 74

Jay Inslee—God love him—was right on message today at the Capitol Hill Block Party. Marriage for all, pro for the choices, etc. etc. I got the chance to catch up with him backstage before Twin Shadow rocked the house, and he had some wisdom about the youthful crowd.

"People are arguing about what to call this generation," said Jay when asked about why young, hip, Capitol Hillians should vote. "I think it will be called the forward generation."

The forward generation, he explained, would move forward on a plethora of social, environmental, and economic issues that old folks are hung up on. He was certain that Washington will pass marriage equality with Referendum 74 this fall, and stressed the importance of talking about why marriage matters.

Jay, ever the gentleman, wouldn't go after McKenna over the recent #asians brouhaha. Saying that he didn't want to "politicize" the unfortunate event, Jay didn't say what he'd do if put in McKenna's position.

His eyes are closed (sorry about that) but hes seeing clearly.

His speech on stage to rile up the crowd fell a bit short—he talked about his elation over "Same Love," the new homo-happy song by "The Macklemore." Confidential to Jay: It's Referendum 74, not Initiative 74. Yes, he said that. Womp-womp. Even with the flubs, his message was right on the money. Jay may not excite a crowd like Obama, but he's the liberal word-dropper we need in office.

I like Jay for not polishing himself beyond recognition. Kind of inept but his heart's in the right place. I keep trying to like Macklemore but he's just too stuck on the preacher's stance for the likes of me.

Jay Inslee comes across as an absolutely nice guy, which is so rare these days in politics. After some of the nasty crap McKenna has been pulling - not to mention the bulk of the GOP - I find this very refreshing.

Did he say "old folks" or was that your phrasing, Intern?

@2 - I have met Jay on multiple occasions, and I can say with confidence that he IS a genuinely nice guy. His wife is lovely as well - they are both very down-to-earth and are great at reaching out and connecting with people.

The forward generation?

Sheesh, Boeing can't find anyone under 30 who can tack on a tail fin.

Most Gen M's have been brainwashed to think they'll be selected out of the herd by beneficent alien robots who are also babe magnets without so much as scoring above average on a term paper.

SRotU@6: You'll be heartened to know that I've recently worked with a number of brilliant 20-something aerospace engineers.

What they don't do, however, is vote.

@3 - "Old Folks" is a paraphrase, which is why it isn't in quotation marks. I reserve double quotes for direct quotes, which are things that someone says verbatim. The paraphrase is me synthesizing things Jay said in my own words.
