Democratic insiders hoping for a positive 1st CD race, were no doubt disappointed by the first couple anti-Suzan DelBene mailers sent out by an apparently pro-Laura Ruderman Super PAC. But the latest flyer to arrive in voters' mailboxes has some DelBene supporters screaming low blow:
Yikes.
The "Progress for Washington" PAC has already spent $64,000 sending out mailers before ballots have even dropped, so it's a safe bet that there's more money where that came from. So when will we learn who is paying for these attacks?
There's a July 20th deadline for reporting contributions made to PACs like this through the end of June, but if the check wasn't written until July 1, then we won't learn the identity of the funder(s) until after the primary. And even then, it's not uncommon to funnel contributions through a C4, thus further shielding the identity of the donor.
It's a bit ironic, of course, for the DelBene campaign to complain about Super PAC expenditures when DelBene's biggest political advantage is her own unlimited ability to self-fund. But the bigger concern for Dems is that mud flung during the primary may help elect a Republican in November.
