George Zimmerman Wants a Different Judge

Posted by on Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 1:02 PM

Talking Points Memo says that George Zimmerman's lawyers have made a motion to disqualify the judge from the Trayvon Martin shooting case:

In the motion, Zimmerman’s lawyer said Judge Lester “makes gratuitous, disparaging remarks” about Zimmerman in his June 5 bond order.

That's the bond order that came about after it appeared that Zimmerman hid funds from the court and was possibly a flight risk. You can read the "controversial" order right here.

Paul,
This is far more interesting:

Appears that the Feds won't have a case that Trayvon Martin's civil rights were violated by Zimmerman.

@1, even if it wasn't racially motivated, life is a civil right to which Trayvon Martin was entitled. The hate crime charge will most likely be dropped for lack of evidence, but they will still pursue murder 2, and unless Zimmerman's claim that it was self-defense gets substantially better supported, they have a decent chance of conviction.

@2,
Agree. Life is a civil right. In as much I wanted Zimmerman arrested and tried I am dubious they will convict him of murder 2. The civil rights/racial was a large component of the state's case. My point is this story eclipses the story about the judge.

I wonder what "gratuitous, disparaging remarks" Zimmerman is referring to. The judge seems to be calling him out for lying about his financials in the most diplomatic way possible.
