Who Is Mitt Romney's Secret Black Friend?

Posted by on Thu, Jul 12, 2012 at 10:25 AM

After the NAACP booed him yesterday, Mitt Romney went on Fox News to assure Republicans that lots of black people will secretly vote for him, even though they couldn't publicly display their support.

“I spoke with a number of African-American leaders after the event and they said, you know, a lot of folks do not want to say they will not vote for President Obama but they are disappointed in his lack of policies to improve the schools.”

Okay. So. This is a difficult situation. You have "leaders" who are huge cowards and are secretly changing their vote to avoid the ire of their followers, as leaders do. And then you have Romney betraying the trust of these leaders who told him about their secret votes in confidence. But now is the time to answer the question on everyone's lips: Who is the Deep Throat who bravely revealed this secret African-American plot to Mitt Romney? Who is Mitt Romney's source inside the African-American community—the person who introduced him to this secret cabal of leaders?

You might want to check out what Cornell West and others are saying about the disappearance of black wealth during 2009 to 2012. It ain't pretty.

If they're not voting for Obama because they're disappointed in his lack of policies to improve schools, shouldn't the followup question be what Romney would do for schools as President?

Didn't Romney have a speech telling kids to borrow from their parents if they needed money for college? Are blacks more excited than other groups to destroy the teachers union? What's Romney's inspiring plan for education?

Oh wait, maybe there's a Fox News "Cornell" West who is the Bizarro world version - i.e., completely the opposite of the brilliant Cornel West who would never blame Obama for the wipeout of the black middle class eight Bush years in the making (not to say that Obama has been making inroads on that in time 2009-2012).

According to the Director of the NAACP, Romney brought black friends with him so that he would get some cheers. The black friend may be Niger Innis.

Agree w/ biffp@4... do I really have to point out that "will not vote for Obama" ≠ "voting for Romney"?

Imaginary black friends? That describes about 90% of liberals in Seattle...the other 10% adopted Haitian kids.

A majority of blacks support charter schools. It's white leftists who want to keep blacks in their place.

@14, could you post the statistics showing the black education has improved in charter schools?

@14 What city?

Can you show me stats that show regular public schools have created education opportunities for inner city blacks?

@12 No.

I imagine that the related "won't vote for Obama" in certain key states does equal "handing the election to Romney" can be left equally unsaid?

The other thing that got him booed was his promise to remove "unneccessary programs such as Obamacare." I believe most of the crownd was aware that the GOP consider Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment insurance, food stamps, WIC, Social Security and most other social programs as "unneccessary" as well. Why do Republicans think this stuff will go over with anyone except well-off white people, Libertarians and Tea Partiers?

@16, the city where your mom works the corner? You're the one who represents that charter schools will mean better education for black kids. My suspicion is that the real agenda is to siphon away all the money for public schools to private profits and then Repubilicans will declare government doesn't work.

Paul,
Maybe that "Secret Black Friend" would be AG Eric Holder?
After all, he called us a "nation of cowards".

BTW, speaking of leaders "betraying our trust"
how about US Rep. (D) Jesse Jackson Jr.:

The answer is (h) Ken Blackwell. Although he is unlikely to be an NAACP member, in the GOP's mind he is a black "leader"--of disenfranchisement of the Ohio electorate, if nothing else.

Since Romney is all about being white, getting booed at an NAACP conference was probably the whole point of going there. It will play well with the racist vote.

So wait, does "improve the schools" in this context mean "completely defund public education"? Because I'm sure the NAACP is just all over that shit. I mean there are just all kinds of privatized education concerns just champing at the bit to open charter schools in disadvantaged, poor inner cities... right? Private enterprise just loves areas with no money and lots of crime, right? That's why there are so many good community services in downtown Detroit?
