The first segment of the new high speed rail will be a 130-mile stretch from Madera to Bakersfield. Historically, it's a big mistake to do something like this piecemeal. Funding can be cut off at any point. The Metro Red Line in LA was supposed to go all the way out to Woodland Hills, but ran out of money (and political will) in North Hollywood. Learn from Boston's Big Dig. Get it all underway. When the ground is broken and full construction is underway, politicians have a harder time cutting off funds for completion.

80,000 jobs a month doesn't even keep up with the new workers coming into the workforce. If that's all that is created in July the unemployment number will probably go up slightly.

But as much of an asshole as Boner is you can't ignore the arrogance of those who WERE in a position to push a jobs bill in 2009 (when they had majorities in both houses and nearly a super majority in the Senate) and choose not to do so. But I suppose in partisan land you can't talk about that.

That video was pretty freaking fun. I wonder who the first person to jump out of an airplane fully trusting that their cloth baed, wind harnessing contraption would successfully deploy and lower them safely to the ground was. Crazy fucker.

While I completely agree they should have done way more, at least back then they were able to do *something*, we would have had a complete disaster without it.

@3,

Seems like the first person might have done it out of necessity, rather than for fun, like when being shot down in war or at least testing out parachutes for military purposes. But then I don't know the history of parachutes or skydiving.
