Ask a Whippersnapper (and a Congressman)!

THE SECB VERSUS: Scott Sutherland (R), Andrew Hughes (D), Goodspaceguy (Final Frontier), and Jim McDermott (D). Not seen: Don Rivers (D).
  • THE SECB VERSUS: Scott Sutherland (R), Andrew Hughes (D), Goodspaceguy (Final Frontier), and Jim McDermott (D). Not seen: Don Rivers (D).

The SECB is still hung over. The SECB loves America. So much that it drank for America until 7:00 a.m. Therefore, the SECB doesn't have any good questions for the candidates running for the 7th Congressional District. That includes 413-term Congressman Jim McDermott and his challenger, whippersnapper Andrew Hughes.

Goodspaceguy Nelson—who runs every year—is also here. But when the SECB says his name, he says, we're supposed to leave out the "Nelson." Otherwise people would "think I'm crazy," he says. So he's just Goodspaceguy, okay?

Help the SECB out by putting your best questions in comments. We'll ask 'em if they're good. The SECB will release dozens of endorsements on July 18. And remember, the SECB couldn't do it without you.

I was at a McDermott fundraiser last year and remember Hughes contributing to his re-election campaign. He said then that he thought McDermott was representing the Seattle area well. It seems strange that he is now running hard against McDermott claiming that he sucks at his job when Hughes has actually contributed money to his campaign. So I guess my question is: Why did Hughes change his mind about McDermott? And, has McDermott returned the money?

Here's my question: what kind of a dickhead wears a black cowboy hat indoors? Do you think you're in a Clint Eastwood movie? In which Clint Eastwood movie did he wear a blue polyester sweatshirt over a dress shirt along with his black cowboy hat?

My second question is for Goodspaceguy: Do you you actually believe that there is anyone who DOESN'T already think you're crazy?

Ask Hughes if he shapes his own brows or has it done professionally.

Ask McDermott a nice open ended question about what he's done with his office since his last reelection. His answer should fill up most of the meeting and tell you everything important about him that you didn't already know.

@3 I've always wondered how he gets on the ballot.

Ask Hughes exactly how much work he's done as a "tax attorney" since graduating.

I preferred when Jim looked like Santa Clause.

Why did he shave the beard?

Other two: What myths do they look like?

Confidential to Goodspaceguy eternal non-candidate is not an answer.

@3, nobody who has any damn business owning a cowboy hat in the first place would ever wear one indoors. An inappropriate hat is always a great way of announcing, "I am a clown. Prepare for my opinions to lack self-awareness and dignity."

That goes double if it's inappropriate for the outfit it's paired with. See also: fedoras without suits; top hats without tails; berets without uniforms and rifles.

I'm rocking my teal crushed-velvet snood with silver pin and minstrel feather, bare-chested with cargo shorts and Crocs, right now.

His name is Goodspaceguy. Just Goodspaceguy. Not Goodspaceguy Nelson ... not any more than your name is Paul ConstantNelson.

He's Goodspaceguy. It's his legal name. It's the name under which he's registered to vote. It's the name under which he filed for election. Goodspaceguy.

You are a high-ranking Democrat on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. Are there tax loopholes that you and some of the Republicans could agree on a bi-partisan basis to eliminate as part of deficit reduction and overall tax reform? Or are members of that committee too beholden to the special interests behind each tax-expenditure in the tax code?
