Whippersnapper Andrew Hughes Declares: "Free booze for all members of the press!"

Posted by on Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 11:34 AM

Andrew Hughes says: Theres a need for a new voice, and a especially for a new generation of leadership.
  • E.S.
  • With liberty and drinks for all journalists.

I'm not sure Andrew Hughes knew what he was getting into when he planned a "spirited start" to his campaign against longtime Congressman Jim McDermott, set it for tonight at a bar right across the street from the Stranger offices, and announced "free booze for all members of the press!"

Brendan Kiley, upon hearing the news, declared: "This man is either a fool or a genius."

The details:

When: Tuesday, June 26th, 6:30PM - 10:30PM

Where: Vermillion - Art Gallery | Wine Bar on Capitol Hill, 1508 11th Ave (between Pike St. & Pine St) Seattle

The Hughes Campaign will provide beer, wine and scrumptious food, with free booze for all members of the press! Top local jazz superstars the Ryan Burns Trio will be performing followed by the lush sounds of DJ Rob.

Tucked away in the heart of Capitol Hill, Vermillion Art Gallery is a refined, urban, contemporary venue described by The Stranger as "a place that possesses the massive virtue of being wonderful without trying too hard."

"D.C. is drunk with power and partisanship," said Hughes. "It's time for leaders that serve the people, not themselves. Let's realize a new future for our district and our country."

Let us also learn how much of Hughes's cash on hand can be drunk in one sitting!

First, however, a Slog poll:

If nothing else, he seems to have a LOT of money to spend on this campaign. I suspect the entire Stranger staff will be passed out on the floor before his cash runs out. Which does not mean you shouldn't take him up on it, of course.

As the former Executive Secretary for A. Birch Steen, am I considered a member of the press?

Dude's middle name is "Ifits," as in, "If it's Hughes, it must be booze!"

In our modern world of blogs an twitter, I think most people can consider themselves "the press".

@3 You're considered a victim.

Heavy drinking is the recommended therapy, and is tantamount to a press credential, so I say show up!

What do I need to prove I'm press? Just my blog link?

: It’s an interesting venue choice, because on May 18, 2011, when Andrew Hughes was running in the 1st Congressional District, he attended a Young Professionals event for Congressman McDermott at Vermillion and donated $50 to Jim’s re-election campaign.
