The Sunday Morning News

Posted by on Sun, Jun 24, 2012 at 8:19 AM

Posted by hungover news intern Mike Gore.

Romney and race: Mitt will be speaking at the annual NAACP convention. I wonder how that will go...

Debby is getting everyone wet: Tropical storm gathers strength, gets lubricated, on course through oil fields.

Today in climate change: More fires! They're burning things up after a spring with record highs in most states. Here in Seattle, it's raining on our parade.

Morsi wins presidency: In Egypt, people who voted were cheering in the street upon the announcement of the Muslim Brotherhood backed candidate.

Teenagers, beware: Tennessee passed a laughable pro-abstinence bill, banning "gateway sexual activities." There's no word if alleyways are ok, but gates — they're out!

Biotech industry likes Jay: People who are smart, bring jobs to region back Inslee.

Brace for impact: Obama is waiting (nervously, one might say) for the Supreme Court to decide if the Affordable Care Act is constitutional or not.

Pride (parade) is today! Get your gay on downtown! That parade is today. Space Needle isn't flying a huge homo flag, so just go to the roar of Diykes on Bikes.

And you thought SPD was bad: Georgia Sheriff seen wearing KKK garb in old photos, suggests it was just for kicks.

Chipmunks eat food: After yesterday's startled dog scandal, here's some chipmunks PRAIRIE DOGS eating food. They're cute little buggers, and won't offend ANYONE. Thanks to SLOG tipper Justin!

Happy Pride!

I'm offended that people confuse chipmunks with prairie dogs.

Those are some pretty fat looking prairie dogs.

I saw a posse of chipmunks yesterday behind the bathrooms at the Ryegrass rest stop. Cute little buggers, but man, they're mean as hell.

easy steps to identifying a chipmunk:
1) does it have stripes? if yes, it might be a chipmunk!
2) is it a prairie dog? if yes, it is not a chipmunk.

Dear Hungover News Intern MIke Gore,

Perhaps one of the most valuable lessons one can learn in journalism is to question everything. Despite the fact that this youtube video is titled "Chipmunk Family Dinner” the furry rodents in the video are not chipmunks, but are prairie dogs, and fat ones at that. For reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipmunk.

Please eat a greasy breakfast and you’ll feel a bit better.

Last night the Seattle Police again introduced violence into an otherwise-peaceful demonstration, deploying chemical weapons against people who were apparently suspected of nothing more than jaywalking. CHS reported on it.

See also these videos: "Seattle Police pepper spray unarmed, nonviolent dancing Pride & QFQ marchers"
and "Seattle Police Department Violence Against Queers."

@9 I saw that and was completely appalled. The SPD is beyond control.

Excellent reporting CHS as always. Thank you.

I hope Romney remembers to remove his big red rubber nose and big floopy shoes before he speaks. Not that it matters.

@9 - I was there right before it happened. Hopefully we'll get a post up about it as more details come to light. It did seem like a very agressive presence for what was a fairly lighthearted celebration. There were some anarchists with bricks I saw, but unsure of why force was needed.

"I don't deny it wasn't stupid, looking back now," [Sheriff] Garrison said.
Nice double negative, Sheriff, but I'm pretty sure you're too stupid to have done it deliberately.

@14, the youtube video someone said it had to do with traffic cones getting knocked over? Seems fishy but when dealing with the SPD probably not shocking.

@14: Mike the Intern wrote, "There were some anarchists with bricks I saw". Mike, do you mean to say that you are able to discern someone's political ideology simply by looking at him or her?

I love my pdogs! They are the awesomest pets. If you think the video was cute, imagine one of them cuddled up in the crook of your arm, snoring away while you scratch his tummy.
