You know this stuff happens, but it's still disheartening to see it happen: The House of Representatives just supported an act that "block[s] safeguards from smog and pollution and mandate[s] drilling on public lands." ThinkProgress takes a look at the money behind the "yes" votes:

The 248 pro-Big Oil votes received over four times more oil and gas contributions over their careers.

The 248 members β€” 229 Republicans and 19 Democrats β€” voted to pass the bill and enrich Big Oil. They received a total of $38.6 million in oil and gas campaign cash β€” or an average of $156,000 each β€” for their federal campaigns.

Of the yes votes, 229 Republicans received $36.2 million.

President Obama, at least, is threatening to veto the goddamned thing.
