Obama Is Still Holding it Down

Posted by on Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 11:02 AM

CNN:

A new national survey indicates President Barack Obama has opened up a double digit lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney in the race for the White House, an advantage for Obama that no other major poll released this month has found.

According to a Bloomberg National Poll released Wednesday, 53% of people likely to vote in the November presidential election say they support the president, with 40% saying they back Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presumptive GOP nominee.

I will not be surprised if in the end it turns out that the presidential race never close at any one time. The corporate media has, after all, the most to gain from a race that looks nail-bitingly close.

Nothing to do with Bloomberg endorsement the day before, right?

One outlying poll is an indication of something wrong with the outline poll. I'll believe it when we see this consistently. The national polls make their methodology clear and are generally scientifically sound. They include their 95% confidence margin of error and recognize that about 1 in 20 will be completely wrong due to sample size. This is almost certainly that one in 20. Here's an example of what I'm talking about: http://xkcd.com/882/

Charles,
This poll means nothing to me.This poll titillates that's all. The swing state polls are more important and incredibly close. Also, I contend the electoral and popular vote will be extraordinarily close on election day. Whether the media "gains" is irrelevant. It's the number at the end of the day means the most.

It will come down to turnout. The people who HATE Obama are motivated, organized, and will turn out in droves, even for a candidate they don't like, to beat him.

On the other hand, if every young "progressive" voter who didn't get everything he or she wanted from President Santa decides to sit this one out, they may as well have actually voted for Mitt.

Only way Obama loses would be by his own hands (i.e., scandal). Mitt is completely unelectable on his own merits.

Might explain this 'Fast and Furious' thing they're trying to gin up.

And 1, if you consider Bloomberg's non statement an endorsement of your candidate, you must be pretty desperate.

this is "likely" voters, not "registered" voters.

it's good news but the vote is a LONG way off. europe could send the planet into a double dip, and americans are dumb enought to blame O.

@4,

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'll still point out the extreme amounts of hate liberals felt toward Bush in 2004. They still didn't come out to vote for *their* out-of-touch, multimillionaire, cardboard-cutout candidate.

I'm still hoping that the Michigan Mormon shits himself royally in full view of the cameras. If for no other reason just to see 'Shit Romney' echo down into history.

More prudent to check the Real Clear Politics average of polls. Obama is only up 2.2.

Obama may be leading, but not by 13%.

This poll is an obvious outlier. Instead of being obsessed over, it should be ignored until and unless other polls replicate its result.

Mudede is confused as he's used to picking the winner of "elections" in his own backward-ass land.

The corporate media also an interest in depicting Rmoney as a credible candidate. Without benign coverage from the press, there is no way that a vulture capitalist and a Mormon campaigning on doubling down on stupid should come close to polling half of the electorate.
