Obama Picks a Winner

Posted by on Tue, Jun 19, 2012 at 11:23 AM

CNN:

A majority of voters agreed with the immigration policy unveiled by President Barack Obama last week, according to a new poll.

The Bloomberg Poll released Tuesday showed 64% of likely voters backed the shift, which would allow the children of illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements to stave off deportation for two years. Although 30% of those surveyed disagreed with the president, coveted independent voters agreed with the decision by better than a two-to-one margin.

So, no skin off his nose.

Easy to say that after the fact. Making a risky decision and knowing it will work out is a sign of competence. And balls.

Rmoney peed his pants, and immediately started whining that it wasn't fair of his opponent to attack a glaring weakness of the Robbing Not Caring party.

I would go further than no skin off his back. I would say it's a plus. I assume Republicans are the only group which is opposed -- but President Obama wasn't going to get their vote anyways.

The people/groups with substantial holdings to protect don't care if a Dem or Republican is president. They certainly are not concerned with the petty, skin-deep, bumper sticker politics that consume the frazzled, jerky minds of the public. They think of the president as the public face of their private security team. They need a face that will do the best job of preventing the destruction of their wealth. Considering that the biggest and most likely conceivable threat is still a large-scale terror event; I think it's safe to assume that Barack Obama will continue serving as their public face for as long as possible.

I like the policy change, but it doesn't change the fact that Obama has been very Republican-like in his administration's pursuit of deportations. I could have used this new approach about, say, three years ago.
