Panic / Sports Buckeyes Are Bi!

According to outsports.com (via TylerGreenDC), a Christian newspaper reader in Ohio is enraged that his beloved state tree (and football team) are represented by a tree with both male and female organs:
But it is shameful and unacceptable that a bisexual tree should represent us! We are flaunting the Holy Bible!
I urge everyone to contact their state representative and demand legislation removing the buckeye as our state tree and condemning the use of the term “buckeye” as a nickname for residents of Ohio.
Or... GO BUCKS!
Update: This is a hoax. But it's sad how believable it is.

If you read the other reports, you will discover that he was being sarcastic. But this is the perfect example of Poe's Law, IMO.

There are some comments in the towelhead article from people who state it's a joke letter, a response to another letter that appear a week or so earlier. Seems plausible.
"Do people not get satire anymore ? That letter was in response to another true anti-gay letter earlier in the week. I still live in Findlay and can tell you letter to the editor section, if anything, is entertaining."

The cluelessness of the supposedly young and hip Stranger staff when it comes to stories like this is mind-boggling. Would it be that hard to follow two or three links before blindly posting shit to Slog?

Good. It's about time the Buckeye faced the consequences of its choice to be bisexual. I'm tired of it trying to redefine "state tree" for everyone else.

Wait wait wait wait... Why is the tree depicted as having genitals in the first place? Is that an actual thing, or part of the joke?

Isn't the tree intersexed, not bisexual? I don't think we can infer the tree's sexual identity without more evidence.

Stupid undecided tree! We should make it into a fence, instead of letting it simply sit on one. It'll probably marry a straight tree in the end *sigh*

Obviously this tree is not living in the way God intended. Let us all gather 'round and throw stones at it until its ways are right with God.
