Microsoft just announced a new line of tablet computers with the family name of "Surface." As far as I can tell, there are two kinds of Surfaces. First, there are Surfaces with a tablet interface and a slower processor. Then there's an ultrabook-style Surface with a desktop environment running on a faster, laptop-style processor. Here's a PDF spec sheet. The screen cover also doubles as a slim keyboard, the tablet has stylus support, and it comes with a kickstand built-in.

No prices or availability has been mentioned yet. The Verge has a regularly updating post about the Surface presentation right now. If you're interested, they're the outlet to watch.

UPDATE: Looks like it's over. Microsoft didn't announce a price or availability date, which seems like a huge problem. Goldy points out that the case is made out of something called "VaporMg," which evokes a phrase with some unfortunate connotations in the tech world.

But for now, what do you think?
