Colin Powell Says Mitt Romney's Neocon Advisers Are Maybe Dangerous

Posted by on Wed, May 23, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Remember when Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 and Republicans were accusing him of being a Democrat or a racist? (The idea on that last one was that Powell was just supporting Obama just because they're both black.) I think they're about to jump all over Powell again:

New York Times says:

Earlier in the interview, Mr. Powell described Mr. Romney’s foreign policy advisers as “quite far to the right.’

“Sometimes, they, I think, might be in a position to make judgments or recommendations to the candidate that should get a second thought,” Mr. Powell said.

He's telling the truth. Hopefully, this will bring much more attention to Romney's advisers, who are almost entirely made up of ex-Bush people. The press has given Romney a pass on his associations so far; maybe now thanks to Powell, they'll be forced to do some vetting.

That would be an accurate statement.

Think of it as doubling down on Crazy.

Kind of like Bush 3.0 ...

Half of America is sleep walking through time. The right half. They never, ever learn.

It's nice to be reminded that there are prominent republicans with whom I could have an honest and productive exchange of thoughts and ideas. Sad that there aren't more of them.

He specifically calls out Mitt's assertion that "Russia is our number one geopolitical threat" which is barely on the same planet as the truth. Just laughably uninformed, something that Will in Seattle might say -- or is it pandering?

My fantasy is Colin Powell running on the Republican ticket, and an actual liberal (like a traditional Socialist Democrat) running for the Dems.

It's like taking the status quo of the last 20 years, and shifting it leftward! So good.

I don't understand why the Obama campaign is not blaring the message that Romney = Bush2 as loud as they possibly can. Yes the idiot electorate has about a two week memory but if they are constantly reminded of the not too distant past that could potentially result in some memories resurfacing.

"He's telling the truth."
This time. Unfortunately, when the world needed it the most, he didn't.

@6: You answered your own question. The Obama team's going to wait until closer to the election, and wait until Romney has fully committed to repeating Bush's failed policies. With some good clips from the debates, the Bush-Romney comparisons will hit a lot harder, and will stick in people's minds come election time.

If he swings hard on this now, Romney can backpedal, and the electorate will have forgotten by November.

Of course, Constant would consider Gen. Powell to be a solid, reputable source, given his background in the coverup of the My Lai Massacre, during the Vietnam war, and Powell's noteworthy performance before the United Nations, holding aloft a hardware store section of pipe, claiming it to be Iraqi nuke technology and, oh yes, spawning that most saintly piece of crapola, Michael Powell.

Constant hardly ever makes sense, no exception this time, either.

The strategem, if a neocon or conservative or war criminal agrees with a Paulie or a Goldy, it must be so? Can you possible provide us with the definition of insanity?

Are the so dangerous that they would lie to the United Nations about a nation's alleged attempt of developing weapons of mass destruction though?

Remember the RULES here, people! Telling the unvarnished truth about ANY aspect of Mitt Romney, his campaign, or his plans for the country constitutes "attacking" him.

War Criminal Colin Powell is in kind of a glass house on the issue of being too far to the right.
