What Do Governor Chris Gregoire and NY Times Columnist Thomas Friedman Have in Common?

Posted by on Wed, May 16, 2012 at 8:31 AM

They both eat lunch, apparently. A keen-eyed slog tipper spotted Gregoire slurping lemonade with Friedman downtown yesterday at the Purple Cafe and Wine Bar. It looked a little something like this:

I went to high school with the Coen brothers, you know.
  • The Stranger
  • "I went to high school with the Coen brothers, you know."
"Oh really? I adored their movie about bowling."

I really wanted to know what they discussed, but sadly our slog tipper refused to don a mustache and pose as a waiter for eavesdropping purposes, or sidle up to a neighboring table while pretending to read a copy of the NY Times. Which means all we can do is speculate wildly. Help me out, Sloggers!

My guess - he asked her for a chat as background for a piece on how state governments have dealt with the disappearance of federal support, and she's working as hard as she can to phrase things simply so he doesn't do one of his famous misunderstandings-that-get-set-in-stone.

Wait, Friedman exists in the wild?

Only one Friedman unit until Chris moves to DC!

They were talking about how to revive their ruling class wet dream - "American's Elect."

There is absolutely fucking nothing worthy of note rattling around in the Stache's empty skull.

Gregoire, you idiot. He knows nothing about the economics and job creation, what on earth would you have to talk with him about?

I loved his question about how in hades she expected to sell bonds for the 99 tunnel using the same pot of money already spoken for the 520 bridge.

Watching her stunned silence at him calling her out was PRICELESS.

The Mustache of Understanding was relating a fascinating conversation he had with a Seattle cab driver in which the driver's views happened to coincide with every single thing Tom Friedman believes about everything. Also, too, Freedom Bombs.

@4, CC-Rob wins again! !

Why the bloody hell doesn't somebody warn me that Freakman was in town!

I wouldn't have prepared for him (cleaned my rifle, put some extra ammo in my pockets) and gone ahunting the Freakman!

I've never liked sorierity girl, Gregoire, so am not surprised she would be feasting royal with the ultimate neocon douchebagger, Thomas "three chins" Freakman!

Thomas "let's offshore all the jobs to India" Friedman.

He should feel right at home with the extraordinarily large Punjabi H1-B population downtown, though.

I would gladly meet in any dark alley with the Freakman....anywhere....anytime....anyplace.

He should have been ended, long, long ago.....

"This is Friedman’s life: He flies around the world, eats pricey lunches with other rich people and draws conclusions about the future of humanity by looking out his hotel window and counting the Applebee’s signs." -Matt Taibbi

I'm not a fan of Friedman, but I don't advocate "hunting" him with a rifle, either. Sgt_doom has taken an unsettling turn from pure kook to violent kook. I think it's time for The Stranger to take some steps and delete his account, and then turn his email and IP over to the FBI.

And I suspect they were discussing Taibbi's latest posting as well:

@10, I think his schtick is valuable in its way, though - he typically presents his go-nowhere views so poorly I believe he helps prevent more people from adopting them.

@10, Fnarf, I'm sure there's an almost infinite number of things spineless wonders like yourself don't advocate, especially finding out whether it was Gregoire paying off Friedman, or Friedman paying off Gregoire with money from the Business Software Alliance.

The feebs already have my IP, as I'm constantly emailing Mueller, inquiring about his greatuncle, Richard Bissell (some notable discrepancies in Bissell's autobiography) and his wife's grandfather, Charles Cabell (interesting how those two relatives constitute two of three CIA types President Kennedy fired?).

You, Fnarfart, should be inquiring of the CIA as to the backgrounds of those two CIA-related underwear bombers.

And yes, I would risk jail time or worse should I ever get within striking distance of Thomas "let's offshore all the American jobs" Friedman --- some things, believe it or not candy-assed-never-served-in-the-US-military, Fnarfart, or worth doing correctly.

BTW, what exactly IS your background, fnarf? Some days you sound like an extreme progressive, other days like an extreme neocon?

@10, fnarfart, but since my time at the neocon gaytard The Stranger is almost up* I will act in a sensitive manner to your moronic, usually wrong and incorrect hyperbole, and refrain from posting here ever again.

*(A nation-wide, grass roots campaign, asking activists to concentrate on their local rags, to disseminate information among the most ignorant, i.e., the abjectly ignorant neocon gaytards at this rag --- oooooohhhh, this faux crat says nicey things about us, we should ignore all his/her Third Reich bullshit, etc., to only last a year --- just about ended, anyway, sonny.)

@farf, or Thornton

So, you're related to that cop who was kicked off the Tacoma PD force?

And that family member of yours who travels to China on business trips, what does he sell to the Chinese gov't, fnarf?

And how many innocents is it responsible for killing, fnarf?

No wonder you defend the Carl Bildt gov't of Sweden --- responsible for just how many massacred Sudanese for Lundin Petroleum, fnarf?
