How is it that I didn't make it into any categories with my musical one-man performance art piece "Jello Cauldron"? I've been telling myself for years that I'm a genius.

Ellen Forney, for sure. She's a Seattle Treasure (tm).

?? has the Genius Awards always been done this way? with a short list, and then a LIVE event where the one winner (and two Non-winners) are revealed. I'm an Oscars Addict. But I think that show is the exception that proves the rule; I'm fine having George Clooney or Brad Pitt find out that they haven't won while an audience looks on. But for *real people* this seems distasteful. Whether it's Keri & Zoe, Zoe & Grady, or Grady & Keri who will be the Non-Winners, it's a little unseemly to have them learn of the fact in a crowded room, while folks cheer for the one who did win.
Here's my suggestion: No Short List, No posted nominations. If you want to list Honorable Mentions afterwards that'd be great - everybody wins that way.
The truth is that all 15 on this short list are geniuses, and how much money/status do they receive for their work and their talent through the year? (Not Enough! is the answer). They deserve better than to have their "not winning" be turned into Theater.

I love Keri Healey (and TORSO was sublime) and any other year I'd be pulling for her but Grady West aka Dina Martina is more than deserving of this award. I was actually surprised that he'd (she'd) not won it before.

Since I wasn't nominated, I would vote for Keri Healey fo sho. How could you not? Full disclosure..she is my sister. But I would still vote for her even if she wasn't my sister. Well, if she wasn't my sister I might vote for Grady West. Who knows for certain?

It would be a huge shame to see the worthiest nominees, based on scope and success of project, lose the award simply because other awardees are already friends with many past geniuses. At least with just Stranger staff voting, it could be more reasonably ensured that everyone is equally familiarized with each artist's work.
