Michele Bachmann Becomes Citizen of Switzerland

Posted by on Wed, May 9, 2012 at 11:34 AM

This seems like a dumb decision for someone who's currently running for a U.S. Congressional seat:

Rep. Michele Bachmann is now officially a Swiss miss.

Bachmann (R-Minn.) recently became a citizen of Switzerland, making her eligible to run for office in the tiny European nation, according to a Swiss TV report Tuesday.

Arthur Honegger, a reporter for public broadcaster Schweizer Fernsehen, told POLITICO the Swiss consulate in Chicago has confirmed that the former Republican presidential candidate became a citizen March 19.

What a weird lady. One day, someone will write a great biography of her. I won't read that biography, but I will happily watch the trashy TV movie adaptation of that biography.

I think it's so Marcus can say, "I'm not gay, I'm just European!"

She said why.

She and Marcus are outsourcing the kids.

Hey, if they were my parents, I'd want to move to another country, too.

WTF? I was under the impression that CH had RATHER MOTHERFUCKING STRICT CITIZENSHIP POLICIES.

Perhaps she has a history of which I am unaware.

@3. Marcus has the rights to Swiss Citizenship by birth.

Just trying to keep score here...it isn't OK to live in another country as a child if you want to be president of the USA, but it is ok to become the citizen of another country while running to be president. What is this, I don't even....

From State.gov:

"a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship"

Reporters should ask her if she intends to give up her US citizenship at every possible opportunity, deport the foreigner Michele Bachmann!

So... I guess maybe she doesn't know that that's part of evil, socialist, sodomite Europe? Maybe she thinks Switzerland is part of Texas, or something?

I've read that this has to do with the new treaty that the US signed with Switzerland in which they allow the US to peer into the financial holdings in Swiss banks.

However, some US citizens are going as far as renouncing citizenship in order to prevent this.

Maybe a dual citizenship will let them claim immunity from the search laws.

If you had 23 kids or was it 26, I forget how many she claimed, you would want socialized medicine for them as well.

@10, I think Carrie Brownstein could carry off the Michelle role and Randy Quaid for Marcus.

I have a friend (American) of Swiss origin. They let anyone in that situation become a citizen. It's all about the banking accounts...

She's hiding money...DUH. Someone should look at her war chest and try to match the outlays against her listed expenses. When they do, I'd bet the farm that things won't add up.

The remainder will be in that account, except no one will be able to look into it because of Swiss Banking Laws.

I really do not like Michele Bachman.
There a whole mess of things for which to not like her and criticize her.
But being automatically granted Swiss citizenship because her kids and husband are granted it due to Swiss law, just is not an issue for me.
Let's criticize her for something that matters.....

We don't want her! Take her back, please. And today she's meeting with some members of parliament. Why? Oh, what does she want here?

Switzerland is, of course, not in the political Europe and there are many who would be receptive to her version of crazy. Unfortunately.

The Swiss kept the Nazis out because there's a law stating that every male citizen must be armed. There's guns in them thar hills. What's not to like?

I'm guessing that even if the Bachmann kids know how to speak the language of the canton, they're still, in the eyes of many Swiss, foreigners and will be treated as such. I've got friends, 100% Swiss parents, who are fluent in Swiss German and French, who went to live in Switzerland, only to be constantly asked by everyone, "Why are you here?"

I've got a friend who's German who moved there to work, only to be politely shunned because he wasn't Swiss. Working with them was fine. After hours not fine.

I think foreign super stars who live in places like Zermatt have a good life. But not sure the Bachmanns have reached that status...

Bachman got her law degree because her husband told her to. She ran for congress because her husband told her to. She applied for Swiss citizenship because her husband told her to, and now she's withdrawing it because somebody told her husband to tell her to do so.

She's the perfect woman.
