Lunchtime Quickie: Happy Birthday Keith Haring

Posted by on Fri, May 4, 2012 at 11:54 AM

Artist Keith Haring was born on this day. And musician Adam Yauch has sadly passed away. In their honor, we should remember that Art Is For Everyone.
And so is music.

Fuck Keith Haring. That looks, as someone once said to another over-rated artist, like one of my child's finger-paintings. Dick Dale, an actual artist, is 75 today. Let's celebrate that.

I saw this exhibit this past weekend. Yes, art is for everyone, but take note, the Brooklyn Museum will not let you in the doors without you paying some denomination of money. They ask for $12, you can pay a dollar, but when asked we were told by the people at the desk that you must pay something to get in. So Keith, your art used to be for everyone, but now it's for the people willing to pay to see it.

That said, the exhibit was good. Small (very few years represented) but good. For the most part, the exhibition went like this: penis, penis, penis, dog, punctuated by jaw-dropping massive pieces of free-form art. The best part was a video tribute to Gloria Vanderbilt. I watched that for a good while.
