Reading Party Special Guest Tonight: Eli Sanders!!

Posted by on Wed, May 2, 2012 at 11:51 AM

It's the first Wednesday of the month, which means it's silent-reading party time. Tonight's the last silent-reading party before summer hiatus. The special guest tonight is Eli Sanders, Pulitzer Prize-winning associate editor of The Stranger, and the live musician will be Will Bielawski playing the harp. If you've never been to the silent-reading party, here's what it's like: Everyone sits around reading to themselves whatever they feel like reading while being waited on. That's it.

Eli says he'll be reading Escape from Camp 14 by Blaine Harden. I'll probably be reading Lightning People by Christopher Bollen. And you? What will you be reading?

Starts at 6 pm in the Fireside Room at the Sorrento, there's a $5 Manhattan special, it's all ages, and it's free.

By the way, Hannah Won, a Stranger reader who had a hard time finding a seat a recent reading party and wants to see more of them pop up in other neighborhoods, has started a Facebook page for people who want to create reading parties more frequently/spontenously. Or, as she calls them, Readups. There was already one at the Spectator in Queen Anne, and it sounds like one in Ballard in is the works.

Please tell me that Eli will be toting/wearing/displaying his Pulitzer.
I would like to see it and perhaps be photographed holding it - although that should not be a reason for Eli to keep the bloody thing in his pants or up his ass. That is too much excitement for the reading party.
