Fred Karger Launches Nationwide Search for Maggie Gallagher's Husband

Posted by on Thu, Apr 12, 2012 at 12:41 PM

As Towleroad reports, LGBT activist and on again/off again GOP presidential candidate Fred Karger today sent an email raising questions about the marital status of National Organization for Marriage figurehead Maggie Gallagher. An excerpt from the email:

I was on Thomas Roberts’ show MSNBC Live with the founder of the National Organization for Marriage, Maggie Gallagher. We were on MSNBC so she could try and defend the treasure trove of “Confidential” NOM documents that had just been uncovered as a result of the 2009 investigation that I got launched against NOM in Maine.

Maggie and I were in separate studios although we met afterwards for this photo and a chance to visit. I asked Maggie if she was still living in New York, and she told me that she moved to Washington, DC nearly three years ago. What about her husband Roman Srivastav? She allegedly married this East Indian man 19 years ago after living as an unwed mother for 11 years. No one has ever seen Maggie with Raman. Wonder if they really did get married? If so, maybe so he could get a green card?

Maggie the *Bigocrite
(Big-o-crite \ˈbig-ə-ˌkrit\ – a person who is both a bigot and a hypocrite.)
For the past 15 years Maggie has written books, columns and talked to anyone who would listen about the necessity of kids having a mother and a father (even though she didn’t follow her own advice for over a decade).

Where’s Your Wedding Ring, Maggie??
According to WikiAnswers only 9.3% of American women don’t wear a wedding ring, a pretty small number. Certainly this national champion of marriage whose twitter name is @MaggieMarriage would wear a wedding ring if she was really married. I first became suspicious when you spoke in Rhode Island two years ago at NOM’s "Celebrate Marriage & Family Day." If ever there was a day to appear with your husband that was it.
I even scoured Google images, not one photo of you and Raman. NOM’s Brian Brown is all over Google. There are lots of photos of Brian with his wife and family.

I smell a rat, Maggie. You are the author of a book is titled “The Case for Marriage: Why Married People are Happier, Healthier, and Better off Financially (on Amazon for only $1.00).” Makes sense to me. But why are you so hell-bent on making sure that those of us who happen to be gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender can’t marry?

Put up, or Shut up.
Let’s see your marriage license, Maggie. Better yet, let’s see your husband!

Let's also hear from her son, who I hear is a big fan of musical theater.

Sucks when someone makes your family life their business, doesn't it?

Is there really any doubt why this woman is hell bent on keeping other people from being able to marry? She played by conservative rules, but didn't get her reward. Sure, she got knocked up in college, but she chose to keep the baby and expected the father to do the "right" thing.

Keep in mind that conservatives don't really have a problem with premarital sex. They have a problem with using birth control and not getting married if the woman gets pregnant.

Unsurprisingly, since she's a hideous person, both inside and out, the baby daddy wasn't interested in marrying her. And she's also been unable to find any other man willing to marry her for love.

So, yeah. She's down with loving marriages. Nothing unexpected about that.

Absolutely priceless!

I'd never thought about her being married (simply assumed it) except to wonder why a married woman would be so bitter if straight marriage is so sacred, fulfilling (yadda fucking yadda), but it all makes sense now.

Also, should she actually BE married, then WHY isn't she going by the ever-so-traditional Mrs. Roman Srivastav? Huh, Maggie? Why not???

::laughs uproariously::
Nope, not schadenfreude at all.

I wasn't aware that Mrs. Srivastav has never been photographed with her (alleged) husband. Then again, I do my best to avoid seeing pictures of her, so I've never looked.

Would you want to be seen in public with her? She needed a husband, he needed a green card...

@4,

Wait, she's *not* down with loving marriages. Oh, screw it. I don't know how the kids talk these days.

Did he even read this after he typed it?

Sure, this guy has good points, and it's all quite amusing. Still….the numerous grammatical errors and lazy typing mistakes are nearly unforgiveable.

@12, holy shit, her photoshop skills are TERRIBLE. I'm willing to bet she's never been in the same time zone as that poor man, much less stood next to him for a genuine photo together.

I dunno, while I agree in essence, isn't this also a little like saying that people without children can't be child psychologists or pediatricians or nannies?

Again, I agree that this woman is awful and what she stands for is atrocious, but the argument laid against her here is a little weak. It's like saying that just because someone is divorced that they're ruined and will never have another shot at a happy marriage.

Fnarf,
Fucking Hell. That was for real?!?
I started pulling out a couple of lines that I thought were incredible, but as I got further into it, I had to stop or else I’d end up just quoting the whole thing. That was… wow. Just: wow. That is crazy.

@12 Awesome. Um, I think. Umm... if that's parody.

Unfortunately, Poe's Law burned out some important piece of my brain some time ago. (I forget which part.)

@16,

I think it's fair, but, as I already stated, I think her raging hatred toward gays and her determination not to let them marry is at least partly inspired by no one wanting to marry her.

@12: I don't think I've ever read anything as gloriously self-deluded as that article. Every sentence is a treasure trove of WTFuckery.

God bless Christwire.
I hitched up my skirt and wiped my parts clean with a greasy Burger King bag I found on the ground. A few weeks later I received confirmation from my doctor that I was indeed with child.

Oh, and I think it's perfectly obvious that Mags's bogus "marriage" is defrauding the INS.

Some time ago I saw a series of videos that covered an entire evening "discussion" between Maggie and John Corvino (one of those "talks with" events on stage, that run about ninety minutes), in preparation for their co-authored book on same sex marriage. At one point in the "discussion" she talked about the history of her decade of unwed motherhood. It was perfectly clear from her body language and from the choice and pacing of her language that she has edited her story quite heavily. I don't doubt that there's been heavy editing around her claims of marriage to Raman Srivastav, too. When I see the marriage license, I'll believe it. In the meantime, I think she's emitting enormous flatulent amounts of bovine effluent.

I love Christwire (especially the comments from people struggling to figure out the nature of the site, but better still, the ones who think it's real and actually agree). I wasted a whole afternoon over there one day...

@12: LO-fucking-L

Intelius says there is a Raman Srivastav, age 53, who is related to Margaret A Gallagher. He's had addresses in Potomac, MD, Reston, VA, Ossining, NY, Bronxville NY,....
