Rick Knows Secrets—But He's Not Telling

This is Rick, who has owned the espresso cart on the ground floor of City Hall for seven years (and 12 years on 5th Avenue before that). He makes an excellent double short Americano. Does Rick get good gossip? "No, you'd think we would," Rick says coyly. Uh huh. Who's his favorite elected official? "I can't tell you that," he says. "That would be the kiss of death! This is a business." If he told all of us his favorite officials, it would hurt everybody else's feelings, he says. Also, he want you to know the business is called City Grind, not just "the coffee cart at City Hall."

My coffee addiction literally began at the City Grind cart, back when it was across from the Columbia Tower, years ago.

@1&3, me too! Is Jon Streeter still around? Rick's son must be a teenager by now. In other news, we are olds.

City Grind is often the highlight of my visits to City Hall.

Mine too #5.

I remember the outdoor 5th and Columbia locale. Had to close on windy days. Satellite HQ of the bike messenger elite.

Rick 'n' Jon of City Grind - serving spro with discretion and a side of wry wit since . . . forever.

Remember the City Grind on the outdoor terrace of the old SPL?

Jon and Rick are the best baristas in town. Jon in the morning is like watching loud poetry in motion. And he never wears pants...

Good beans. Now I know where to get good brew next time I'm in your city.I visited your spectacular metropolis this past summer. That's why I'm on here, being a wannabee-what? Seattlite? Seattlene? What do you collectively call yourselves?
